Recreation Program Specialists have oversight for one recreation program and provide instruction to student workers and first-level program assessment. They assume responsibility for the administration and management of smaller program areas, help communicate program policies and procedures, and help develop promotional initiatives. Recreation Program Specialists may supervise, schedule, and evaluate student and community employees.
Group Fitness Program Assistant Virginia Recreation is seeking a certified fitness professional to provide assistance to the Senior Director of Fitness with the management of the group fitness program and staff. Duties will include scheduling, training and evaluating the group fitness instructors, as well as maintenance, upkeep and inventory of the multi-purpose studios. Additionally, the program assistant is expected to teach weekly group fitness classes, assist with class coverage, lead in-service training, and work departmental special events. The ideal candidate is an experienced instructor with leadership experience. They will hold a group fitness certification and be able to teach a minimum of three different group fitness formats including but not limited to: indoor cycle, barre, yoga, resistance training, Pilates, kettlebells, BOSU, Zumba, aquatic exercise, and boxing. They will hold current certification (or be willing to obtain training immediately upon hiring) CPR for the Professional Rescuer. This is a wage position which is not eligible for leave or other benefits and is limited to 1500 hours of work in a year. This allows for some flexibility with scheduling in that this can be a 9-10 month or part-time year-round position.
