Position Overview:

The Public Affairs Associate supporting targeted outreach and interactions with important stakeholders including elected officials, regulators, and other policy advocates.

Location: Hybrid, downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Job Responsibilities:




  • Produce outreach materials to support Regulatory Affairs, Government Affairs, and Clean Energy Strategy, including but not limited to one-pagers, "leave behinds," postcards, talking points, well-designed presentations (PowerPoint), posters for tabling and events, and other collateral.
  • Coordinating and collaborating with all internal business units. In particular, this individual will collaborate with Corporate Communications, the team that oversees general messaging on behalf of the company and media relations, as well as Customer Experience, which manages communications specifically to customers, to ensure consistency across all outreach channels.
  • Support public affairs in coordination with Corporate Communications via the development of thought leadership pieces such as Op-Eds, guest blog posts, and other media targeted toward niche government and/or trade publications. Provide subject matter expertise for pitches managed by Corporate Communications going to top tier publications.
  • Develop sample social media posts, newsletter articles, etc. to offer to targeted DLC partners for their use, for example to promote customer assistance programs or clean energy opportunities.
  • Partner with Corporate Communications and Customer Experience to draft social media, newsletter and/or website content related to clean energy, government or policy-related topics.
  • Identify new and innovative outreach opportunities for consideration.
  • Coordinate occasional webinars on clean energy and policy related topics.
  • Support the team in managing event and organization sponsorships.
  • On occasion, represent the External Affairs team at events, such as networking events, conferences, and tabling events.
  • Develop and manage contracts with marketing agencies, digital platform providers, and physical collateral vendors.
  • Leverage customer and market research to inform strategic messaging.



Education and Experience



  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field including but not limited to communications, marketing, or public policy. Applicants from other fields are welcome to explain in cover letter the relevance of field of study or previous experience.
  • At least 2 years of related experience.

Scope

Primary focus is on daily deliverables, outputs and reporting. Typically accountable for managing one's own time and work flow. Responsible for using prescribed guidelines to analyze situations and solve problems. Work is typically of moderate complexity requiring the incumbent to draw on previous knowledge to perform role. Continues to build knowledge base and develop capabilities by partnering with more experienced staff as needed

Decision Impact

Problems and issues faced are vague but may be recognizable based on past experience. Accountable for some direct level of reasoning and decision making in straightforward situations based on precedents.

Hybrid Work

Position follows our hybrid work model, with a minimum of two days working in the office and the remaining days working remotely. Reporting location and frequency may be subject to change based on job role and department needs.

Storm Roles

All Non-Union Employees will serve in storm roles as appropriate to their role and skillset. Please be sure to discuss storm roles with the hiring manager for this position, as duties can vary across the Company.Examples of storm roles could include but aren't limited to duties such as: working with operations for service center support or with the communications, customer service or government affairs teams to respond to public and customer requests for information, etc.

Data Governance

Utilize data to make business decisions as appropriate for the position, support data stewardship activities and partner with IT on underlying data needs.
