Moffatt & Nichol specializes in large complex waterfront infrastructure projects and is recognized as one of the worldwide leaders in this field. We are actively looking for a Junior Level Electrical Engineer to join our Norfolk, VA based team. As the successful new hire, you will work on both large and small projects locally, domestically and internationally. Projects include shipyards, ports, cargo terminals, large and small marinas, port authority, and municipal. In addition, you will work on new technologies and developing industries from microgrids to projects in the offshore wind industry!

Horizontal electrical design is different from that of buildings, commercial and industrial properties. It will provide you with new knowledge, challenge, and career growth. We are looking forward to mentoring and developing your skills in the growing horizontal / infrastructure market! You will work with an international MEI team and Senior Engineers around the company through our intraoffice staff utilization program. Thus, growing your skills beyond the state and country for which you work.

As the successful new hire, you will join a highly collaborative international team of Electrical Engineers. You will not only work on projects in the region but beyond! This diverse project experience will help grow your knowledge and expertise outside of your local region. You will work with team members locally and across the company. You will also work with team members from other disciplines to integrate your designs and complete highly technical projects.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Assist in the completion of electrical designs to support firm-wide projects by working with Project Managers (any discipline) and electrical teammates
  • Assist project managers by providing design calculations, design drawings, and project specifications for the following but not limited to:
    • Medium/low voltage power distribution systems
    • Lighting systems
    • Lightning protection systems
    • Grounding systems
    • Communications systems
    • Electrical equipment design (including switchboards and switchgear)
    • Selective coordination and arc flash studies
  • Assist with the electrical designs of multidiscipline projects
  • Participate in companywide Quality Assurance and Quality Control processes

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with two or more years of related experience OR master's degree in electrical engineering with Entry Level experience in:
  • Engineer in Training Certification within 1 year of hire
  • Medium/low voltage power distribution systems
    • Grounding systems
    • Lighting systems
    • Communications systems
    • Electrical equipment design (including switchboards and switchgear)
    • Selective coordination and arc flash studies
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and/or Revit is required
  • Experience with ETAP/EasyPower and AGI32 preferred
  • US Citizenship required
  • Ability and willingness to travel to local job sites and occasionally other Moffatt & Nichol offices
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171
  • Moffatt & Nichol uses E-Verify and employment is contingent upon the legal ability to obtain employment in the U.S. and to present the required documentation at hire

Physical requirements:

Work is generally performed in an office or client office setting. Ability to use standard office equipment is required.
