Overall Purpose and Job Summary:

We are seeking a creative, strategic and knowledgeable Manager, Brand Communications to join our Communications and Corporate Responsibility team to serve as our "brand guardian" across all company marketing, public relations, advertising and communications initiatives. This is a highly visible role that will work across diverse topic areas and groups to build brand alignment, value propositions and ultimately support company goals.

As a member of the communications leadership team, the Manager, Brand Communications will lead all marketing efforts for the company, including managing relationships with agencies and vendors, conceptualizing ad campaigns and overseeing high-impact corporate partnerships.

The Manager, Brand Communications displays excellent judgement, fine-tuned storytelling instincts, understanding of the current landscape for devising creative content, and demonstrates through their work approach the importance of impactful campaigns for driving awareness, alignment and building a strong reputation amongst all stakeholders. The ideal candidate demonstrates deep knowledge of best practices and new approaches around creative and marketing design across platforms.

Location: Hybrid, downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Key Responsibilities:

Brand Management



  • Develop enterprise brand strategy, including the maintaining corporate style guides, brand guidelines, brand vision and value proposition for short- and long-term projects and company initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain corporate collateral to support company vision, including bank of corporate facts, image and video library, and other collateral as needed.
  • In partnership with HR and other internal stakeholders, develop an employer brand that is reflective and respectful of DLC's rich history but also represents the workplace of the future that DLC is actively shaping and building. This work includes taking a leadership role in shaping corporate narrative internally and externally around careers at DLC and guiding workplace branding at new and existing facilities, such as our new headquarters at Nova Place in the North Shore.
  • Support enterprise-wide projects with brand positioning, collateral development and leadership communications for high-impact and technical projects.
  • Serve as a resource to the ESG and DEI teams and their annual goals/programs, including supporting the ESG Report, major BERG programs and events, and DLC charitable and volunteer programs.
  • Provide creative, marketing support and brand consultation to family companies, The Efficiency Network (TEN) and Duquesne Light Holdings (DLH), as assigned.



Collateral and Campaign Development



  • Manage a small team of graphic designers who support internal and external communications projects and other key internal stakeholders, including customer groups and electrification.
  • Assist with project managing brand support to internal and external communications initiatives and events including video, multimedia and graphic design, and manage the strategic deployment of this content across channels.
  • Conceptualize, test and implement paid campaigns that improve customer perceptions and adoption of new products and services; manage relationship with media buying agency and designers; lead reporting of campaigns and adjust strategy where needed.
  • Utilize customer and trend research to create strategies and campaigns that influence how people perceive our brand and value.
  • Provide strategic brand and marketing consultation to internals partners, as needed.



Brand Partnerships and Sponsorships



  • Manage partner and sponsorship relationships ensuring all deliverables are met and on-time, and partnerships are fully maximized; provide executive insights into partnership performance and opportunities where appropriate; occasionally lead event management related to partner events and venues.
  • Maintain budget for advertising, sponsorships and creative vendors.



Education and Experience Requirements



  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, advertising, or creative design
  • 7 years of experience in corporate communications or agency management
  • Demonstrable experience in leading entire projects or campaigns from concept to implementation and delegating effectively to team members
  • Experience working in large, complex organizations or utility experience preferred
  • A strategic thinker who can multi-task, has impeccable communications skills and is ready to roll up their sleeves
  • Ability to make sound judgments and maintain poise and focus in high pressure situations
  • Outstanding attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and strong problem-solving/conflict-resolution skills



Scope

Primary focus is on day-to-day management of operational execution also develops and exercises business plans, policies, and procedures. Contributes to proactive planning exercises of management team as requested. Trains and develops staff. Plans the workflow. Looks for areas of process improvement and directs available resources to accomplish this. Leads changes and implementations for direct team as pushed down through the organization.

Decision Impact

Resolves problems of a greater complexity than the former. Improves existing processes & systems using conceptualizing, reasoning, & interpretation skills. Solutions require through understanding of business strategies and issues. Defines broad based solutions that would require consideration of wider implications on organization results & resources.

Hybrid Work

Position follows our hybrid work model, with a minimum of two days working in the office and the remaining days working remotely. Reporting location and frequency may be subject to change based on job role and department needs.

Storm Roles

All Non-Union Employees will serve in storm roles as appropriate to their role and skillset. Please be sure to discuss storm roles with the hiring manager for this position, as duties can vary across the Company.Examples of storm roles could include but aren't limited to duties such as: working with operations for service center support or with the communications, customer service or government affairs teams to respond to public and customer requests for information, etc.

Data Governance

Utilize data to make business decisions as appropriate for the position, support data stewardship activities and partner with IT on underlying data needs.
