United States, Washington, Redmond
Mar 04, 2025
OverviewResearch Internships at Microsoft provide a dynamic environment for research careers with a network of world-class research labs led by globally-recognized scientists and engineers, who pursue innovation in a range of scientific and technical disciplines to help solve complex challenges in diverse fields, including computing, healthcare, economics, and the environment.Religious liberty is a fundamental human right enshrined in the US Constitution and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. As a company that prioritizes safeguarding fundamental rights in our technology, Microsoft is committed to upholding religious liberty in our products in the age of AI and empowering religious communities achieve more in living their values and transmitting their faith. Too often there has been a stark divide between the worlds of religion and faith on the one hand and those of science and technology on the other. Researchers, product managers, responsible AI officers and more are building an initiative to close this gap between our stated cultural values and the lived experience of our customers. By tailoring existing products more closely to the needs of religious communities, developing new tools specifically for their needs and ensuring that our responsible AI practices reflect ancient wisdom, Microsoft can be the partner of choice for a diverse range of faith-based organizations and individuals.
ResponsibilitiesResearch Interns put inquiry and theory into practice. Alongside fellow doctoral candidates and some of the world's best researchers, Research Interns learn, collaborate, and network for life. Research Interns not only advance their own careers, but they also contribute to exciting research and development strides. During the 12-week internship, Research Interns are paired with mentors and expected to collaborate with other Research Interns and researchers, present findings, and contribute to the vibrant life of the community. Research internships are available in all areas of research, and are offered year-round, though they typically begin in the summer. This summer we will explore critical opportunities for adapting and designing AI systems to better serve the needs of a diversity of religious communities through model evaluations, product design, customer and employee research, responsible AI practices and more. Our Research Intern will have a range of potential projects to choose from within this domain and will be empowered to shape the work in the direction of their passion and external studies. The Research Internship will combine research and practice and involve collaboration with a range of internal and external stakeholders and aim to catalyze the development of a new research focus in this area.
