Summary:
Responsible for supervision of the day to day operations of the Infection Prevention Program as well as defining and addressing longer term strategic plans. Responsible for the management of personnel, planning and management of departmental budget and resources, and the goals and business objectives of the assigned areas. Serves as a resource to the staff within the department, and MaineHealth. Works collaboratively with Quality Management, Administration, Medical Staff, Nursing staff, and other clinical and non-clinical departments.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  1. Education: Graduation from a 4 year college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in the healthcare field.
  2. License/Certifications: Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maine. Knowledge of current patient care techniques, methods, practices and procedures; Certification in Infection Control required.
  3. Experience: Minimum 3 years work experience in Infection Prevention. Knowledge of infectious disease process, surveillance, epidemiologic investigations, prevention and controlling the transmission of infectious agents/healthcare-associated infections. Knowledge of laws, regulations and standards pertaining to infection prevention. Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate infection prevention practices, policies and procedures.
  4. A relatively high level of critical thinking skill, process, and problem solving skill and systems knowledge necessary for participation in clinical initiatives and project management.
  5. Interpersonal skills to deal effectively with wide range of hospital and non-hospital personnel of all levels. Communication and leadership skills sufficient to lead individuals and groups through assessment, planning and evaluation process.
  6. Knowledge of computer systems not limited to Windows based programs, Power Point, Excel, Access, and Epic.
