Reporting to the Director of Manufacturing Operations, the Engineering Manager plays a key role on the site management team responsible for the planning, NC programming, and engineering function in a 24/7 aerospace manufacturing facility. The role will direct and oversee the daily activities in the department and will develop and review/approve programs and plans for a variety of aerospace assemblies and components.
Additionally, the Manager creates and maintains engineering drawings, supplier configuration documentation, customer configurations, and engineering documentation, and oversees planning in the ERP system.
This role is identified as requiring ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations) compliance; therefore, qualified candidates must meet the definition of a U.S. Person (per EAR Part 772 and ITAR 120.15):

* An individual who is granted U.S. permanent residence (i.e., a "Green Card" holder), or
* An individual who is granted status as a "protected person"

  • Creates and/or approves manufacturing plans based on coordination with CNC programming and functional teams to plan, configure, interpret, and maintain manufactured parts, components, and assemblies
  • Ensures configuration management is planned for the life of the product, from receipt of engineering to appropriate part marking before stock
  • Conducts appropriate review and distribution of customer engineering, quality requirements, specifications and configuration plans
  • Maintains, controls, and interprets customer engineering datasets (CAD models, drawings, parts lists, specifications, and approved processor lists); coordinates engineering changes with internal departments and ensures entry into engineering and ERP database
  • Supports production, program management, procurement, and quality in the interpretation of engineering documentation including customer specifications for a wide range of OEMs; serves as primary contact for internal and external customers regarding engineering issues
  • Develops and deploys continuous improvement plans as appropriate to the NC programming, planning and engineering department.
  • Sets an example for integrity, communication, and compliance for others in the organization by following policies, communicating professionally, and providing timely responses to internal and external customers
  • Manages the selection, performance management, and development of direct and indirect reports
  • Determine/verify stock sizes needed for new product development
  • Recommend/evaluate production processes for new and improvement projects
  • Estimate production times and costs as requested
  • Performs other duties as required
  • Regular attendance on-site at the workplace is required


Required Education and Work Experience


  • A bachelor's degree in engineering or a similar technical field is required; or equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience with progressive responsibility and career advancement in planning, NC programming, and engineering for manufacturing operations
  • Supervisory experience is strongly preferred
  • Experience in aerospace manufacturing is required

  • Comprehensive knowledge of AS9100, FAA standards, federal regulations, etc., and of industry manufacturing standards and practices
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and specifications; demonstrated success in providing technical interpretation and coordination with internal and external suppliers and customers
  • Knowledge of configuration management principles and processes
  • Exercises sound judgment and discretion in decision-making necessary to ensure product conformance
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities to appropriately handle unexpected challenges
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality, securing employee and company records, and demonstrating integrity in communications and actions
  • Self-management skills including efficiency, sense of urgency, ability to adapt and respond to unexpected circumstances, and ability to juggle multiple projects, competing priorities, and meet concurrent deadlines
  • Leadership skills evidenced by talent selection, retention, and personnel development
  • Exceptional professional communication skills, both written and verbal (English) are required
  • Computer proficiency utilizing Microsoft Office; advanced Excel skills to include pivot tables, lookups, charts, graphs, and advanced/complex formulas
  • Computer proficiency using ERP systems (Infor Visual preferred), electronic data storage and security, and revision control is required
  • Experience using engineering drafting/modeling software is required; Catia V5CAD/CAM preferred; ability to manipulate datasets (e.g. interrogate CATIA models including Model Based Definition (MBD) to extract engineering requirements)
  • Strong analytical skills, detail orientation, and organizational skills are essential


Physical Demands and Work Environment

To perform the essential functions of the role, employees must be able to perform the following activities with or without reasonable accommodations


  • Sit for prolonged periods at a desk and work on a computer.
  • Regularly stand and walk throughout the facility, including all buildings and the manufacturing areas; occasionally navigating rough or uneven terrain
  • Regularly lift, carry (short distances), and push/pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasionally climb steps, stairs, or ladders.
  • Occasionally bend, crawl, stoop, squat, or kneel.
  • Constantly communicate verbally and in writing (English) using a phone, texts or other messaging, and email.
  • Drive a motor vehicle (occasionally)


Working Conditions
Work is performed in a combination of locations including offices and the manufacturing shop environment where working conditions vary significantly; the employee will be exposed to:


  • Excessive noise (occasionally)
  • Dust, smoke, fumes/vapors (occasionally)
  • Extreme temperatures (occasionally)
  • Hazardous equipment including forklifts, hand tools, cranes or other lifting devices, complex machining centers and other equipment used in a machine shop environment (occasionally)


The use of PPE, including hearing protection, eye and hand protection, and the use of safety footwear may be required.
Travel
Occasional travel, including overnight travel, is required. Travel may be by air or ground transportation. A valid driver's license and acceptable driving history to meet insurance standards is required.
