Overview

Specializing in high-tech facility design, SSOE provides design and engineering services for a wide variety of clients. Our diversity and breadth of highly skilled and knowledgeable professionals work across industries and integrate into a cross-disciplinary team that provides better understanding of total client systems than the traditional arrangement of specialized, siloed disciplines. A key differentiator of our team is our ability to conceptualize, plan, and detail all aspects of design, as well as coordination with various in-house disciplines within the organization to collaborate, optimize, and improve work and staff sharing by participating in multi-discipline strategy sessions. We use cutting-edge techniques and software to bring industry leading technology and creative solutions to our clients from day one.

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer at SSOE, you will be a key driver in the design and delivery of complex mechanical systems. You will lead and contribute to projects that demand innovative thinking, meticulous execution, and a deep understanding of advanced mechanical principles. This role offers the opportunity to work on challenging projects, mentor junior engineers, and directly impact the success of our clients and our firm. This position is an onsite role that will require you to work onsite each day and be located in the N. Phoenix, AZ area. Remote or hybrid work arrangements for this role are not available.

  • Perform computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations for airflow, temperature distribution, and pressure drop analysis.
  • Design and specify specialized exhaust systems for hazardous materials, including acid fume and solvent exhaust.
  • Develop and implement energy-efficient designs, incorporating heat recovery, variable speed drives, and advanced control strategies.
  • Develop and analyze building automation systems (BAS) and integrate them into the mechanical design.
  • Lead design reviews and ensure compliance with industry codes and standards (e.g., ASME, ASHRAE, NFPA).
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including electrical, structural, process, and architectural disciplines.
  • Conduct thorough field verifications and site surveys to assess existing conditions and identify design constraints during construction and commissioning phases.
  • Serve as a technical authority in mechanical engineering, providing guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution, required.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in the state of practice or the ability to obtain reciprocity within 6 months of employment, required.
  • Demonstrated experience in mechanical engineering design within the AEC industry, with a focus on industrial or high-tech projects.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD is required. Experience with Revit, Navisworks, hydraulic modeling software (e.g., PIPE-FLO, AFT Fathom), or similar is a plus.
  • Experience in the design of HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and process mechanical systems, with a strong understanding of relevant codes and standards.
  • Experience performing field verifications and site walks to identify, verify, resolve, and incorporate solutions into design packages. Ability to troubleshoot design problems in the field.
  • The ability to interface with customers to define scope of work and basis of design.
  • Salary Range: $100,000 - $145,000/year depending on location, education, experience, and any certifications that are directly related to the position.
