Overview

The role of a Fire Alarm Inspector 2 is responsible for performing inspections and testing of fire alarm systems to uphold safety and compliance standards. The Fire Alarm Inspector 2 will work under the guidance of senior technicians or supervisors to develop expertise in fire alarm systems, related technologies and interconnected systems.


Responsibilities

* Perform routine inspections and functional testing of simple fire alarm systems, ensuring compliance with NFPA 72 and local standards.

* Test and troubleshoot initiating devices, notification appliances, and system components, addressing malfunctions or deficiencies.

* Assist in inspections and testing of interconnected systems, including elevators, HVAC shutdown, fire doors, tampers and flows.

* Assist senior technicians with the installation, inspection, testing, and maintenance of fire protection systems, including fire suppression, detection, and alarm systems.

* Shadow experienced technicians during site visits to observe and learn industry best practices in system management and servicing.

* Engage in training sessions and workshops to develop foundational knowledge of fire protection system components, technologies, and operational procedures.

* Participate in routine inspections and testing of fire alarm and sprinkler systems.

* Assist in the installation, maintenance, and upgrades of fire alarm systems as needed.

* Document all service activities, including inspection results and repairs, and complete testing reports with noted deficiencies.

* Communicate system performance and deficiencies to customers and account managers for accurate quoting of recommended repairs.

* Collaborate with senior technicians and supervisors to learn advanced fire alarm system technologies and best practices.

* Adhere to safety protocols and regulations in all on-site activities and training exercises to ensure a secure working environment.

* Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors, actively contributing to project tasks and fostering a positive learning environment.

Qualifications

  • * Minimum of high school degree and two years of related experience or two years technology degree.

  • * NICET Fire Alarm Systems Level I or NICET Inspection and Testing of Fire Alarm Systems I or pass NICET I exam within 90 days of employment.

* Ability to function in a controlled, effective manner under stress.

* Strong desire to continuously increase your skill set and take on more responsibility.

* Above average communication skills with customers, other field personnel, office staff and sub-contractors

Abilities:

  • Lift at least 100 pounds at one time and 60 pounds for an extended period.
  • Relocate a 12-foot stepladder without assistance.
  • Work at various heights up to 60 feet and can climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, and all types of ladders.
  • Walk, climb, lift, squat, crawl, kneel, push, pull and reach overhead on a routine and repetitive basis.
  • Possess good vision (may be corrected vision), the ability to see in color, and the ability to hear and communicate in English.
  • May use a standard ladder without exceeding the weight limit while carrying tools.
  • Tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.
  • Apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.
  • Combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (including finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events).
  • See details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
  • Listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
