Grounds Maintenance Worker - Senior Lead

Location: Airway Heights, Washington (FAFB)

Type: Non-Exempt

Work Schedule: Full-time

Compensation: $22.50 - $22.50/hour

Skookum is seeking a motivated and hard-working Grounds Maintenance Worker-Senior Lead with a positive and can-do/helpful attitude. This is a temporary position and is expected to run up to but no longer than November 30, 2025.

Typical duties include but are not limited to:

  • Machinery, Tools, Equipment, and Personal Protective Equipment: (list below)

  • Operate tractor and commercial grade riding mowers and/or other equipment. Operate weed eater, blower, and/or mower, as necessary. May be required to use manual or power tools to complete work assignments.

  • An acceptably-cut grassed area shall be cut to a uniform height. Grass cutting is to be accomplished in a manner such that it is not uneven or rough and is free of scalping, rutting, and bruising. Trimming shall be performed in conjunction with grass cutting at all locations as identified. Clippings shall not be allowed on surfaced areas.

  • Shall provide and maintain all grass cutting equipment for grounds maintenance performed under this functional area. Items to include but not limited to mowers, lawn vacuum/blowing devices, tractors, equipment with mowing accessories, string trimmers, edger's, and other equipment as required to perform work under this functional area.

  • Prior to mowing responsible for picking up and removing all rubbish, debris, and trash (which includes, but is not limited to; rocks, paper, pinecones, limbs, and other portable objects) within the maintenance area and all trash, papers and limbs lodged in shrubs, hedges, fences, and along foundation walls.

  • All clipping rubbish, debris, and trash removed shall be properly disposed of as directed. In conjunction with mowing services, responsible for inspecting grounds for trash and debris buildup, possible fire hazards, and pest activity

  • Mowing debris and clippings shall be removed from surfaced areas immediately after completion of mowing operations. Water shall not be used to remove clippings from roadways or other paved areas.

  • Mentor employee concerns in a respectful and mutually beneficial manner.

  • Monitor employees to ensure efficient use of time, performance and understanding of work tasks.

  • Record daily personnel attendance and report any absences or tardiness to the Site Manager.

  • Monitor employee conduct and report any concerns to the Site Manager.

  • Maintain professionalism in both appearance and demeanor.

  • Plan and post weekly crew schedule.

  • Submit weekly report to QC department.

  • Order and pick up parts for grounds equipment.

  • Responsible for various reports- i.e., schedules, and accident reports.

  • Coach and train employees.

  • Responsible for the issue, turn in & securing of all government and Skookum keys/vehicles/phones. Ensure that buildings are secured, and safety measures taken when exiting.

  • Ensure quality service to meet the contract requirements.

  • Perform all duties of the Grounds Maintenance Worker.

  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of safe work practices.

  • Ability to perform heavy physical labor.

  • Reading and understanding contract requirements and maps.

  • Demonstrate ability to multi-task throughout workday, with constant interruptions.

Physical Requirements:

Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance. The physical demands of this position may be reasonably accommodated for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions on a case-by-case basis.

  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

  • May be required to reach, kneel, walk, stand, and use repetitive motion for several hours at a time based on position duties.

  • Work may require repetitive motion, reaching, lifting, kneeling, and walking. Standing or sitting for several hours at a time, climbing in and out of a vehicle, and up and down stairs may also be required.

  • Must have the perseverance to work effectively under pressure for extended periods of time.

Requirements:

  • A valid state driver's license is required with the ability to obtain and maintain coverage by Skookum's insurance.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain applicable security clearances and installation access. A background check and E-Verify will be conducted for this position.
