Job Title: Engineering Lead A - Mechanical

Location: Pascagoula, MS

Position Overview:

The United States Coast Guard (USCG) is recapitalizing its polar icebreaker fleet to ensure access to both polar regions, supporting vital national interests in economic, commercial, maritime, and national security. The Polar Security Cutters (PSCs) will serve as national assets, enabling defense readiness in the Arctic and Antarctic and supporting Coast Guard missions such as marine environmental protection, port security, and search and rescue operations.

Bollinger Mississippi Shipbuilding has been awarded the detailed design and construction of the USCGC Polar Sentinel (PSC-1) - the first heavy icebreaker built in the U.S. in 50 years.

The Engineering Lead - Mechanical reports directly to the Mechanical Functional Design Manager and works under the general guidance of the Functional Design Manager, Program Manager, and Project Engineer. This role is responsible for the technical accuracy, content, scheduling, and reporting of mechanical design deliverables.

General Function

The Engineering Lead - Mechanical is accountable for overseeing the technical content, quality, and timely delivery of mechanical design products for the PSC program.

Typical Duties

The following list provides an overview of core responsibilities but is not exhaustive:

* Ensure technical accuracy and quality of mechanical design deliverables for the PSC program.

* Oversee and assign design calculations and drawing development to achieve Mechanical Functional goals.

* Manage the development, progression, and reporting of product schedules for required deliverables.

* Create and oversee procurement Statements of Work (SOW) for material solicitation and subcontractor management per contract terms.

* Lead the department in achieving Mechanical Functional group goals.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

* Comprehensive understanding of mechanical and marine engineering, including:

  1. Propulsion systems
  2. Power generation
  3. Deck machinery
  4. HVAC systems
  5. Auxiliary and piping systems
  6. Electrical and structural interfaces with mechanical systems

* Strong communication skills (oral and written), with the ability to interact effectively at all levels, including:

  1. Government personnel
  2. Equipment manufacturers
  3. Program and project engineers
  4. Procurement specialists
  5. Design engineers
  6. Production personnel

* In-depth knowledge of Maritime Regulatory Authorities and standards (e.g., ABS, DNV, NAVSEA, MIL, USCG, IMO, IEEE).

* Proficiency in relevant computer programs, including Microsoft Office Suite and AutoCAD.

Desirable Experience & Training

* Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.

* Experience: Minimum of 12+ years in shipyard design and/or construction, or equivalent experience supplemented by relevant training.
