Overview
Participates in the evaluation, construction, operation and maintenance of University systems to include metering, building electrical distribution, lighting and controls, electrical vehicle charging and the SCADA system to ensure that the needs of the University are met in the most economical and effective manner.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare reports of project activities and other reports and analyses setting forth progress and appropriate recommendations and conclusions.
  • Manage the installation and setup of electrical meters at the local and regional campuses. Assist in bringing the metering data into the SCADA system for billing, monitoring, and analytical purposes.
  • Perform load studies as necessary to determine equipment loading.
  • Advises and assists with problems involving the maintenance and repair of electrical related equipment and a wide variety of instruments.
  • Review and evaluate new projects to verify that campus electrical design standards and energy management standards are being met.
  • Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • Performs miscellaneous job duties as required.
  • Manage lighting, metering upgrade, lighting controls, and other energy management related projects.
  • Supervise full time electrician and/or multiple hourly employees performing the work associated with projects managed by this role.
  • Metering responsibilities initially focused on electrical meters. The role has expanded beyond electrical meters to water, natural gas, and etc.
  • Manage the lighting control systems across all USU Facilities. This includes maintaining and upkeep of the system database, commissioning and check out of new construction, determination of upgrade needs, occupant and technician training, re-commissioning/optimization of existing systems, and planning/managing upgrade projects.
  • Management of the expanding EV charging system across all USU Facilities. Developing and upkeep of charger standards, commissioning and checkout of new installations. Responsible for the integration into the head end EV charging system. Determine locations needing additional chargers and developing plans to add additional chargers. Leads/coordinate the maintenance effort of the EV charging infrastructure.


Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • To be considered as an Engineering Tech:
    • 4 years of electrical experience or licensed journeyman electrician or degree in business, math, or applied sciences.
  • To be considered as an Engineering Tech SR:
    • 6 years of experience in electrical or technical field or a combination of 2 years of experience with a degree in business, math, or applied sciences.
  • To be considered as an Engineering Tech Lead:
    • 10 years of experience in electrical or technical field or a combination of 4 years of experience with a degree in business, math, or applied sciences combined. With team leadership or process management experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working with electrical systems; lighting, controls, and meters.
  • Seeking electrical engineering degree.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of equipment and systems appropriate to related discipline.
  • Knowledge of all federal, state, and local codes and ordinances pertinent to electrical systems.
  • Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to conduct field inspections, surveys, and measurements.
  • Ability to write reports containing technical information.

Working Conditions & Physical Effort: Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than (4) hours per day. Work environment involves situations that require following safety precautions and the use of protective equipment.
