Essential Job Functions

The Firmwide Senior Trial Technology Specialist (Senior Specialist) will provide support to attorneys, paralegals and expert witnesses regarding the use of discovery related materials as a visual aid to assist juries, judges, arbitrators and mock juries in matters involving complex litigation.

The Senior Specialist works closely with litigation teams throughout the pretrial and trial lifecycle to ensure smooth courtroom operations enabling successful outcomes for firm clients. The Senior Specialist leverages significant trial experience and advanced technology skills to organize, analyze and prepare electronic documents, media and testimony for impactful presentations.

This position requires at least 5 years of trial experience providing a combination of support pre-trial and at-trial functions including but not limited to graphics support, courtroom/warroom setup and 'hot-seat' support.

The Senior Specialist reports to the Director of Trial Technology Services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (This list is not exhaustive and may be supplemented and changed as necessary.)

  • Coordinate and support courtroom surveys, equipment rental, advanced onsite setup, hardware troubleshooting and management of all technology used at mock trials, in warrooms and in courtrooms during hearings and trial.
  • Utilize databases, spreadsheets and transcript management software to manipulate, migrate and extract data in a variety of formats for import and export into litigation, discovery and trial support applications.
  • Consult with legal teams to support refinement of exhibits, sequences and other trial strategies.
  • Support the creation of high-end graphics for demonstratives in collaboration with attorneys, paralegals and design team members.
  • Train others on the use of trial presentation software and respond to requests for general trial and litigation technology support.
  • Participates in trial technology initiatives, team meetings and promotes internal team resources.

Qualifications & Requirements

Required

  • At least 5 years of onsite, trial support experience.
  • Highly organized, capable of multitasking, delegating assignments and effectively managing workflow under tight deadlines.
  • Strong written and oral communication, along with the ability to build and maintain relationships with attorneys, paralegals and team members.
  • Technical skills, knowledge and experience to setup and troubleshoot hardware commonly used in warrooms and court rooms including networking, peripheral and audio/visual technology.
  • Well skilled in courtroom presentation software like OnCue (preferred), Trial Director and Time Coder Pro.
  • Ability to create and edit slides and graphics in PowerPoint.
  • A working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, Relativity, transcript management tools (TextMap, Opus 2) video editing tools and data reformatting software.

Compensation

The base salary range below represents the low and high end of the salary range for this position in Chicago, New York City, and Washington D.C.. This range may differ based on your geographic location and cost of living considerations. At Kirkland & Ellis, we consider compensation more than just a base salary. Compensation Range:

  • Chicago: $120,000 - $160,000

  • New York City: $120,000 - $170,000

  • Washington D.C.: $120,000 - $173,000
