STV is seeking a Night Inspector - Heavy Civil / Utilities for our PM/CM group in NYC.

The Inspectori willto oversee and inspect heavy civil construction activities during evening and night shifts. This role will focus on roadway construction, at-grade and elevated roadways, structural steel, steel decking, concrete foundations, subsurface utilities, and Maintenance of Traffic (MOT). The inspector will ensure that all work meets design specifications, safety standards, and regulatory requirements, while monitoring contractor performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct nighttime inspections of construction activities, including roadway construction, structural steel, concrete foundations, and subsurface utility installations.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT standards, local regulations, and construction drawings for at-grade and elevated roadways.
  • Monitor steel decking, structural steel installation, and foundation pouring for quality and adherence to approved designs.
  • Inspect subsurface utility installation, including water, sewer, and electrical infrastructure, ensuring compliance with safety and construction standards.
  • Verify that Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) protocols are followed to maintain safe conditions for workers and the public.
  • Review and approve construction submittals, RFIs, and material testing reports.
  • Coordinate with project managers, engineers, contractors, and utility providers to address any issues or discrepancies found during inspections.
  • Document findings through detailed inspection reports, photographs, and punch lists.
  • Identify non-conforming work and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, safety standards, and nighttime work zone traffic control.
  • Conduct quality control checks on subcontractor work to ensure high standards of workmanship are maintained.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • 5 years of experience in heavy civil construction inspection, preferably in roadways, bridges, and utilities.
  • Strong knowledge of structural steel, concrete foundations, subsurface utility installation, and roadwork construction.
  • Familiarity with MOT planning and implementation, particularly during nighttime construction.
  • Experience in night shift inspections or working in active construction zones after hours.
  • Ability to read and interpret civil and structural plans, grading details, and technical specifications.
  • Proficiency in inspection reporting software and Microsoft Office Suite is a plus.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working on large-scale transportation, infrastructure, or airport projects.
  • Knowledge of bridge construction, steel erection, and deep foundation systems.
  • Certification in work zone traffic control or MOT compliance.

Additional Information:

  • This position will require working night shifts to inspect ongoing construction activities.
  • Work will take place in active roadway and construction zones, requiring adherence to strict safety and traffic control procedures.

Compensation Range:

$63,305.00 - $84,407.00
