We are looking to hire a Utility Locate Manager for our growing Geospatial Group in St. Louis, MO. Primary Responsibilities
- Establish best practices and protocols for private utility locating at Keeley.
- Create standardized reporting and documentation procedures.
- Track and manage locate requests to ensure timely completion.
- Use traditional locating services (electromagnetic, RF detection) and ground-penetrating radar (GPR) to mark underground utilities.
- Identify and accurately mark utility lines, ensuring proper documentation.
- Maintain detailed records of all findings, including utility maps, photos, and reports.
- Recruit, train, and supervise a team of utility locators.
- Integrate drones for aerial mapping and surveying.
- Utilize concrete scanners to enhance subsurface investigation capabilities.
- Research and implement new technologies for improved accuracy and efficiency.
- Follow safety protocols and local regulations for utility locating. This includes adhering to guidelines for working near hazardous utilities (like gas or electrical lines) and ensuring that the excavation process avoids damaging vital infrastructure.
- Communicate findings with construction crews, engineers, and other stakeholders, ensuring they have the information needed to proceed safely with excavation or construction work.
- In emergency situations (e.g., when a contractor hits an unmarked utility), quickly locate and assess the damage to ensure safety and prevent further incidents.
- Regularly maintain and calibrate utility locating equipment to ensure accurate readings. The technician must ensure tools are functioning properly and ready for use at any time.
- Troubleshoot and adapt approaches if utilities are difficult to locate, using different techniques or tools to ensure they correctly identify utility locations.
- Stay updated on any new utility installations or changes to existing ones, ensuring that utility records are kept current and accurate.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Geomatics, or a related field (preferred).
- 5 years of experience in utility locating, surveying, and/or underground construction.
- Prior experience with private utility locating.
- Ground-penetrating radar (GPR) experience is a plus.
- Part 107 certification is a plus.
- Supervisory or management experience in utility locating or a related field (preferred).
- Proficiency in using utility locating equipment such as electromagnetic locators, radiofrequency (RF) detection, and GPR.
- Experience with GIS mapping software and utility documentation.
- Ability to read and interpret utility maps, blueprints, and as-built drawings.
