Position Summary:

Oversees the strategic direction, operations, and P&L of a Gordon Food Service Distribution Center. Coordinates activities of warehouse operations with activities of other Gordon Food Service departments to ensure availability of merchandise.

Essential Functions:

Vision & Strategy

  • Develops, monitors and manages LRP, capital and operational budget for the DC that support corporate and division goals for growth and earnings.

  • Monitors, manages, and controls plan/budget; analyzes variances and takes appropriate action

  • Develops and monitors KPIs, provides monthly and YTD reports to Home Office leadership and Divisional General Manager. Communicates major concerns regarding workforce issues, equipment, systems or policies with recommendations for resolution.

  • Works closely with the divisional leadership team to support AOP / LRP objectives and customer focused initiatives.

Leadership

  • Serves as a resource and servant leader. Creates an environment that stimulates achievement, creates opportunities, and sets an expectation for teamwork and success.

  • Interviews, hires, trains, and retains management staff. Conducts performance monitoring of staff, initiates follow through with disciplinary action and termination in consultation with Human Resources when appropriate for the department.

  • Mentors, motivates, and develops staff and acts as a role model and resource to them. Works with Warehouse Leadership to identify and develop future warehouse leaders.

  • Adheres to the mission and cornerstone values and applicable practices of the organization.

Operations and Efficiency

  • Responsible for the global accountability and overall performance of Distribution Center (DC) initiatives, including complete and accurate customer order shipment, accurate transport and delivery of GFS products; quality and inventory standards and salvage; system and other audits; and the general maintenance and management of the DC.

  • Maintains branch route growth plan knowledge and its effect on the DC systems and personnel requirements. Collaborates with the local DC transportation leadership on route placement plans to maximize warehouse efficiencies and transit/delivery departure requirements.

  • Collaborates with Corporate Warehouse leadership and Division General Manager to create, review and implement DC policies and procedures.

  • Collaborates with department heads to coordinate warehouse activities with other functions including production, sales, records control, purchasing and safety.

  • Works with department leadership and their staff to develop creative plans for DC systems and procedures that will improve customer service, safety, efficiency, accuracy, product care, sanitation, and employee morale.

  • Ensures training requirements and tracking are complete for all warehouse employees.

  • Accountable for the acquisition, trial, evaluation and repair of equipment, supplies and resources utilized in the warehouse.

  • Maintains relevant and updated knowledge and technical aptitude on current operations systems in order to utilize this knowledge to make educated, data driven decisions in every day and emergent operational crisis.

  • Responsible for food safety and facility security

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

  • Broad knowledge of warehousing operations and compliance

  • Must have excellent written, verbal, organizational and communication skills as well as problem-solving capabilities.

  • Must have ability to prepare and deliver presentations and speak at minor functions as a departmental representative.

  • Must have the ability to multi-task, prioritize and be able to work independently or within a team environment.

  • Must be able to perform fundamental mathematical functions including concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

  • This position requires excellent mentoring, good listening and supervisory skills to oversee the day to day operations of the department.

  • Must have good time management and organizational skills.

  • Acts as a change agent.

  • Develops solutions to complex problems that require the regular use of ingenuity and innovation. Ensures solutions are consistent with organization objectives.

Does this look like you?

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain or similar field of study or 10 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.

  • Five years of leadership experience required

  • Warehouse operational experience preferred

  • Ability to communicate in English- writing, speaking, and reading

Pay:

  • 104K-163K, based on experience

  • Annual bonuses (variable depending on firm and associate performance)
