Who is SSP?
Senior Aerospace SSP, specializes in designing, manufacturing, and qualifying complex ducting systems for aerospace applications. Since its humble roots in 1945, the campus has now expanded to include a 59,000 sq. ft high-volume production facility, in addition to its legacy 131,000 ft2 main buildings which combined, accommodate over 500 employees. Vertically integrated with its own foundry, fabrication shop, and ISO certified engineering lab, Senior Aerospace SSP acquired by Senior PLC in 1995 and has continued its expansion into new programs and technologies.
What does the job involve?
Summary:
Responsible for assisting in the supervision of all assembly/welding operations and supporting personnel within these departments. The role focuses on fostering a culture of visual material flow and standard work, as well as maintaining required safety stock buffers to ensure 100% on-time delivery (OTD).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Under general supervision, the Associate Assembly Supervisor must be able to perform a variety of job duties including, but not limited to:
* Assist in directing work within assigned departments according to engineering specifications.
* Collaborate with various staff functions (e.g., Production Control, Manufacturing Engineering) to manage both detailed operations and overall departmental performance.
* Work to overcome obstacles such as material shortages or machine/tooling breakdowns. Escalate issues to the Assembly Supervisor or Superintendent as needed.
* Assist in training personnel to maintain product quality, reduce scrap, maintain productivity, ensure smooth workflow, and promote safe work practices.
* Support special projects in the department, including employee suggestions and improvement initiatives.
* Aid in ensuring the quality of parts leaving the department and the accuracy of all production counts.
* Keep records as prescribed by the supervisor and report to the Assembly Supervisor or Superintendent as necessary.
* Provide guidance to assigned personnel, assist in performance reviews, and support the discipline process as needed. Offer input on staffing decisions, including hiring, promotion, and termination.
* Conduct department inspections to ensure cleanliness and safety. Help maintain the proper operation of machinery and equipment.
* Support the selection, status changes, or termination of assigned hourly employees. Assist in the administration of labor agreements and company policies.
* Adhere to all Senior policies and procedures.

Education and/or Experience:
* Required: High School Diploma or GED.
* Preferred: Associate's degree.
* Experience: 3-5 years in a manufacturing environment required, with aerospace manufacturing experience preferred. Prior experience managing or leading small teams is beneficial.
Required Skills:
* Language: Ability to read and write in English, and analyze general business periodicals, technical procedures, and government regulations. Effective communication skills are necessary.
* Reasoning Ability: Capable of solving practical problems and interpreting various instructions. Familiarity with production techniques, machinery, and metal properties is advantageous.
* Mathematical Skills: Proficient in basic algebra and geometry, and able to use shop mathematics to solve production issues.
* Other Abilities: Knowledge of MAPICS manufacturing software, MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Must be tactful and diplomatic in dealing with shop personnel and able to assist in supervisory responsibilities. A background in lean manufacturing and problem-solving skills is required.
