EMG Technologist
I. Position Function: The EMG technologist must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care in the Neurophysiology Lab for stable patients and at the patient's bedside for critically ill patients. The EMG Technologist must perform standard and complex neurophysiological recordings on the adult patient population. II. Job Relationships: Reports to the Manager of Respiratory Therapy (or his/her designee). Interacts with other health care professionals to plan, provide, monitor, and evaluate care services for our patients. III. A. Responsibilities/Essential Functions: 1. Provide superior customer service to internal and external clients, customers, and patients as referenced in the Service Excellence Standards. 2. Testing, Documentation and Interpretation requirements according to the American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine (AANEM) and the Clinical Neurophysiology Lab standards. Responsibilities include patient safety and providing high quality neurodiagnostic testing. Having previous exposure to these tasks is very beneficial. * Electrode placement for nerve conduction studies. These studies can be perfomred on the median, ulnar, radial, peroneal, tibial, sural nerves etc. by applying the appropriate stimulus and recording responses * Ability to interpret the waveforms, efficiently adjusts all necessary parameters to obtain comprehensive results * Collect and record data and report to attending physicians the preliminary findings. * Ability to multi-task between different applications at the same time. * Perform daily quality assurance for all patients undergoing EMG testing to ensure adherence of electrodes to allow for artifact-free recording. * Include patient's billing information for physicians. * Enter and result charges for each patient * Must perform monthly and annual quality assurance measures for the EMG lab * Must ensure that reports are entered into Meditech and Athena in a timely fashion * Strong interpersonal communication skills. * Must be able to work in a team environment as well as independently. IV. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS: * Vocational or Technical training in Electromyography. preferred. * Understanding of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access). * Ability to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of concepts, practices and policies and demonstrate for practical applications in varied situations. V. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/LICENSURE/TECHNICAL/OTHER: Education: Electro Neuro Diagnostic Program preferred. Onsite training can be provided Experience: Minimum 1-2 years Certification/Licensure: Registration by the American Association of Electrodiagnostic Technologists (AAET) is preferred.
