Responsibilities

The Software Engineer, ISS Portable Computer System (PCS) will:

Have substantial knowledge of the Portable Computer Systems' Command and Data Software (CDS) application. Tasks will include incorporating software changes to support new CDS capabilities as required, assist in PCS OS and hardware upgrades, and incorporate improvements to the PCS Flight Qual MDM Simulator. Tasks include

    Participation in code reviews to verify that code meets the requirement specifications and is testable
  • Creating and executing software development test procedures from Software Requirements (i.e. Design Specifications and Software Change Reports)


Qualifications

Required Education/Experience/Skills:

  • BS/BA in Mathematics or Computer Science
  • Proficient in:
    • C, C++
    • UNIX / Linux, X-Windows, MOTIF
    • PERL, Javascript, XML, Web Server scripts
    • Oracle, SQL, Database Management System internals
    • Linux Operating Systems
    • COTS 1553 Drivers
  • 20+ years of experience with the Portable Computer System on ISS

Preferences:

  • Experience in software development using tools like Python
  • Development environments and drivers for COTS devices/electronics experience
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills Excellent communication skills (in both written and verbal)
  • Demonstrated teamwork experience

Essential Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation.

  • Work may involve sitting for extended periods.

  • Generally an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.
  • Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, fax, etc.)
  • Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical.
  • Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements when required.
  • Must be able to work in a team atmosphere.
  • Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation.
  • Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
  • This position may require some commuting and traveling to other installations as needed.
