Under the direction of the Payroll Manager, prepares and processes payroll for MATC payroll (faculty, part-time faculty, student employees, and staff). Researches payroll system problems and preforms solutions. Exercises independent judgment and decisions on payroll matters. Collaborates and advises faculty, students, managers and employees and shares essential information and opinions. Communication is continuous between the division, industry partners, federal agencies, and governmental regulatory bodies.


Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  • Compiles, analyzes, and enters payroll data; recommends and determines necessary and applicable adjustments.
  • Provides customer service by researching, analyzing and resolving difficult or technical problems or questions involving any facet of the payroll system.
  • Completes appropriate forms or apply adjustments to wages and salaries; processes voucher payments and reports; compiles compensation time balances and credits for employees semi-annually.
  • Reviews, and analyzes payroll reports for accuracy and applies corrections through journal entries in compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Compiles and submits for supervisor review financial, tax and payroll reports for both internal and external sources.
  • Collaborates with county, state, federal agencies, insurance vendors, and other outside stakeholders to address employee wage compensation, employment status and deductions.
  • Supports and provides reports for annual federal and state tax payroll process meeting the requirements of government agency and employee records.
  • Prepares correspondence of a technical nature pertaining to payroll issues.
  • Cross-trains, advises and recommends payroll operating procedures, rules and regulations, and processing to faculty, students, managers and staff.
  • Participates in meetings, workshops, seminars, and other professional activities.
  • Performs other related duties as required for the efficient operations of the division.

Qualifications

  • Required Education: Associate's degree in business, accounting or relevant area.
  • Preferred Education: Bachelor's degree preferred.
Required Experience:
  • Two (2) years of related work experience in a payroll position or related work experience in payroll using recognized payroll principles and practices.
  • Preferred Experience:
  • More than two (2) years of relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of payroll principles, practices regulations, and procedures.
  • Skill in performing detailed mathematical computations.
  • Skilled in evaluating and analyzing technical payroll activities.
  • Ability to independently investigate pay and related problems, solve problems within established parameters, and/or provide alternatives for resolution.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service on a consistent basis, especially those experiencing pay discrepancies.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through both oral and written means.
  • Proficiency software specific to position, including Microsoft Office Suite especially Excel, Word and other applicable software applications.

  • Physical Demands:
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs., carry, and push up to 20 lbs. and ability pull up to 50 lbs.

  • Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, hear and speak.
  • Sitting/Standing/Walking: 50% of time spent sitting, 25% of time standing, and 25% of time walking.


Supplemental Information

Salary: This is a non-exempt, hourly position, with a pay range of $23.92 - $29.90. Salary is listed to the midpoint of the salary range and is based on the 2025/2026 rates and are determined by years of experience credit and internal salary equity. This position is a limited term assignment funded through June 30, 2025. If continued funding is not available this position will end.
