JOB OVERVIEW:

As part of the world's largest almond processing manufacturer, this role will lead and develop an operational team in our state-of-the-art facility at Blue Diamond. As the Operations Shift Manager, this role is responsible for overseeing and leading daily operations and ensuring all processes run smoothly and efficiently, while driving a continuous improvement culture. This role involves leading a team in achieving high performing results in Safety, Quality, Service, Performance, and People objectives. Collaborates with the Site Director and the Site Leadership Team to provide the development and execution of plant strategies to deliver the site goals.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • As a member of the Site Leadership team takes a leadership role to collaborate and help execute strategies to deliver site goals in support of company goals and objectives.
  • Establishes, communicates, and executes measurable manufacturing and team member goals that deliver uncompromised safety, quality, service, and performance results.
  • Maintains total ownership of one or more systems/tools deployed or enhanced at the site.
  • Functions as an Operations Startup Lead for critical projects where we are modifying or installing new equipment.
  • Leads a system in one of our key focus areas or continuous improvement efforts across the manufacturing site(s), including establishing and training to a standard, inspecting against the standard, and measuring results.
  • Build development plans to improve all levels of the team in the department. Actively coaches direct reports to increase their capability and the results of the team.
  • Leads and develops continuous improvement; promotes the organization's culture of Zero Waste, Zero Harm, One Team, and 100% Commitment.
  • Improves product quality levels by promoting and maintaining high standards of food safety and sanitation and delivering customer/consumer expectations.
  • Assists team in assembling and delivering an Annual Operation Plan that drives improvement in both fixed and variable costs.
  • Leads shift operations in a manner that ensures high levels of conformance to production schedules and proper inventory control in a cost-effective manner to ensure Service levels are achieved.
  • Achieves technical mastery of the production process and assist with innovation as required.
  • Promotes continuous learning of staff resulting in a flexible and agile workforce.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as required or assigned.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum level of education required

  • Bachelor's Degree related the fields of Engineering, Business, and Manufacturing.

Minimum number of years(s) of experience required in leu of Bachelor's Degree

  • 6 years of food or beverage manufacturing experience

Other required type(s) of functional experience (e.g. Production/Operations, Accounting, Forklift Operator, Inventory Control, etc.)

  • 4 years of experience supervising manufacturing teams.
  • Experience effectively leading a team environment; skilled with translating concepts into concrete examples.
  • Experience with operating a wide range of food processing equipment; knowledge of SQF and quality standards and requirements.
  • Has a cross-functional understanding of maintenance practices and techniques; good understanding of SPC and associated tools.

Other job requirements (e.g. certifications/licenses, CPG experience, work overtime/weekends, etc.)

  • Covers weekends as needed to support 24/7 operations.
  • Work Schedule: 12:00 PM - 9:00 PM. Stated shift start times are for reference and guidance as those times may need to be flexed to support the shift or operation needs.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES (Specialized education, specific software experience, etc.)

  • Experience functioning as a proactive team player.
  • Experience in coaching and development of both direct reports and broader organization.
  • Knowledge of City/County/State & Federal Rules and Regulations concerning municipal codes.
  • Must possess strong planning skills with ability to analyze trends and determine corrective actions.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce on schedule.
  • Act independently in a constructive manner.
  • Strongly motivated to improve self. Demonstrated leadership ability through discovering and utilizing people's capabilities, recognizing good work and earning the respect of peers and subordinates.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Must be able to physically move throughout the facility, including climbing multiple flights of stairs, ladders, elevated catwalks and tight access areas. Able to sit/work at a desk for extended periods of time doing things such as analytical work or reports, which requires focus, while utilizing a computer.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Must be able to work in a plant environment being exposed to dust, high noise levels, extreme temperature and humidity fluctuations, fumes and odors from welding and other maintenance processes, poor lighting, and wet operation work conditions. Typical conditions may include prolonged sitting, standing and walking.
