POSITION SUMMARY:

The TMS Clinical Service at Boston Medical Center is recruiting a TMS technician to deliver transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) for the treatment of various psychiatric conditions. This is a clinical position that entails interaction with patients and their caregivers. This position will report directly to the TMS Medical Director and work closely with the TMS program coordinator.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:


  • Administer TMS under the supervision of an on-site physician (may involve advanced TMS equipment and neuro-navigation to guide TMS therapy to the appropriate brain region).
  • Navigate and mitigate patient side effects during treatment.
  • Adhere to safety and compliance guidelines
  • Call patients ahead of their first TMS treatment to answer questions and address concerns
  • Administer standardized questionnaires to assess psychiatric symptoms.
  • Triage patient concerns and elevate urgent ones to on-site prescribing physicians.
  • Document daily notes in the medical record and quality check patients' charts to ensure their authorizations are up to date, visit numbers are correct, and all consent forms and documents are uploaded.
  • Discuss patient progress at weekly Rounds meeting
  • Assist the Lead TMS Technician (if applicable) in maintaining a database for clinical and research activities.
  • Provide feedback and advice on ways to improve the TMS clinical service
  • Work with the TMS Coordinator and Lead TMS Technician (if applicable) to maintain TMS equipment, order supplies, ensure the proper maintenance and function of the equipment used, and contact appropriate vendors for repairs, when necessary.
  • Work with the TMS Coordinator and Lead TMS Technician (if applicable) to develop and monitor quality control testing of equipment as necessary.
  • In coordination with the Lead TMS Technician (if applicable) or the TMS attending:

    • Assist in training initiatives
    • May initiate purchasing requests, monitor accounts/expenditures; reconcile statements as needed


  • Stay up to date on TMS literature.
  • May involve TMS administration or coordination of clinical research protocols
  • Performs other related duties as required

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. One year of previous clinical experience with psychiatric populations is preferred but not required.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:


  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the capacity to work with patients with behavioral and psychiatric problems and communicate with other professional and administrative staff
  • Experience with computer software applications including Microsoft Office suite
  • Excellent organizational skill and attention to detail
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology
  • Ability to quickly learn new skills, including use of advanced hardware and software for delivering transcranial magnetic stimulation

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Works directly in a fast-paced outpatient procedural care environment. The incumbent should ensure that high quality patient care is delivered safety and efficiently.
