Responsibilities

Arcfield is seeking a senior mechanical and aerospace engineer to support our strategic programs work in Colorado Springs. Arcfield has supported our U.S. Navy Strategic Systems Programs (SSP) customer by performing research, development, analysis, modeling, simulation, and testing to assess weapon system performance and qualify weapon systems for normal and hostile environments. We provide support in the areas of programmatic and systems engineering, engineering and scientific analysis, and operational systems support for Navy SSP's strategic reentry systems. We utilize both COTS and in-house developed software to deliver analysis results and software models of reentry systems and weapons effects to Navy SSP. The mechanical and aerospace engineer level III will be responsible to provide technical analysis of reentry system performance in hostile and normal reentry environments. This analysis can include modeling the environments as well as analyzing complex materials and structures; dynamic response of structures subjected to hypersonic aerodynamic loads and system responses to thermal and shock environments. The winning candidate will guide the development, testing and evaluation of aerospace materials; develop mechanical finite element models; use modeling and simulation tools to assess material response and system design performance.

  • Work in a team environment to plan and accomplish project goals and objectives
  • Complete vehicle performance evaluations in hostile and atmospheric reentry environments with advanced computer modeling techniques
  • Learn and use FEA mesh tools, and advanced linear and nonlinear FEM solvers
  • Learn and use CFD grid tools, and advanced CFD hypersonic flow solvers
  • Analyze, interpret, and assess simulation results
  • Publish a summary report documenting results
  • Write plans, reports, and presentations
  • Present results to DoD customer and external reviewers
  • Travel to meetings at national laboratories and customer sites

Considered a recognized authority within the Company. Works on unusually complex technical problems and provides solutions which are highly innovative. Determines and pursues courses of action necessary to obtain desired results. Researches, designs, develops, and tests structures, propulsion units, and guidance and control subsystems for aircraft, missiles, or spacecraft. Analyzes aerospace product or equipment specifications and performance requirements to determine designs, which can be produced by existing manufacturing or processing facilities and methods. Analyzes project requests and proposals and engineering data to determine feasibility, producibility, cost, and production time of aerospace or aeronautical products. Directs and coordinates activities of engineering or technical staff designing, fabricating, modifying, or testing of aircraft or aerospace products. Develops design criteria for aeronautical or aerospace products or systems, including testing methods, production costs, quality standards, and completion dates. Plans and conducts experimental, environmental, operational and stress tests on models and prototypes of aircraft and aerospace systems and equipment. Evaluates product data and design from inspections and reports for conformance to engineering principles, customer requirements, and quality standards. Formulates mathematical models or other methods of computer analysis to develop, evaluate, or modify design according to customer engineering requirements. Reviews performance reports and documentation from customers and field engineers, and inspect malfunctioning or damaged products to determine problem. Evaluates and approves selection of vendors. Plans and coordinates activities concerned with investigating and resolving customers' reports of technical problems with aircraft or aerospace vehicles. Evaluates new technologies for application in improving design of aerospace systems. Plans, coordinates, directs, and evaluates testing of aerospace systems.
