General Responsibilities |
Contributes to the maintenance of federal and state compliance and outstanding customer service to the military student community. Performs full spectrum of duties as a
School Certifying Official (SCO) for the Department of Veterans Affairs [VA] educational assistance and the Department of Defense [DoD] Tuition Assistance programs. Processes paperwork and serves as a liaison to the VA, DoD, Maryland National Guard and State Approving Agency (
SAA). |
Work Performed |
* Serves as primary
SCO providing submission of enrollment dates, enrollment certifications and verifications, certifications of student status changes, grades, last dates of attendance, and file maintenance for students using education benefits with the VA, DoD, and Maryland National Guard. Completes new
SCO training requirements within 30 days of hire and maintains existing
SCO training requirements annually.
* Supports the efforts of the associate registrar to ensure compliance on all federal, state, and institutional requirements for the administration of VA education benefits, DoD Tuition Assistance, and enrollment at
HCC.
* Contributes to preparation of reports related to military students, audits and compliance surveys, and the annual catalog submission.
* Contributes to the maintenance of military community webpages, student portal and learning management system, printed materials, and the communication plan to military students.
* Assists in the development of strategies and programs to increase faculty, staff, and peer awareness of the military community's needs and advocacy. Maintains working relationships and knowledge of all college units that support students in the military community, including student services and the finance office.
* Supports HCC's chapter of the Student Veterans Organization [
SVO].
* Creates and maintains process documentation related to primary areas of responsibility.
* Updates professional knowledge by attending professional meetings, conferences, and training sessions; represents college at
MACC affinity group.
* Contributes to testing and projects related to technology upgrades and implementations.
* May represent the college and department at events, both on-campus and off-campus.
* Performs other duties as assigned related to the functions of the office. |

* Associates degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. All degrees must be from a recognized institutional accreditor.
* One year of prior work experience.
* Customer or student service experience.
* Attention to detail and ability to resolve routine problems with minimal supervision.
* Demonstrated proficiency with technology to include Microsoft Office applications and student information systems or similar database.
* Ability to contribute to a dynamic, student-focused, cooperative team culture that delivers excellent customer service and personal attention to students.
* Ability to handle a multitude of tasks in a fast-paced enrollment office.
* Ability to develop and maintain thorough knowledge of relevant federal, state, and college regulations, policies, and procedures related to veterans benefits and other military programs.
* Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of work-related information and materials while abiding by state and federal privacy laws, including
FERPA.
* Demonstrated organizational and task management skills.
* Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills; demonstrated excellence providing customer service to individuals from diverse backgrounds.
* Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and set priorities to achieve goals and objectives.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
* Regular attendance and an ability to work mornings, evenings, and occasional weekends consistent with college needs.
* Criminal background check.
* Performs all duties while considering the impact of any actions on the college's sustainability initiatives in the areas of environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and economic prosperity. |
Working Conditions |
Fast-paced, deadline driven, and sometimes high stress customer service environment. Occasional additional evening and weekend work during peak periods. Occasional local travel. Extensive follow-up work, database use, responding to inquiries, etc. Flexibility required. |
