Overview
The International Lending Officer plays a critical role in managing the lending process for commercial loans within the International Department's portfolio. This position independently oversees the lending aspects, ensuring seamless operations, client satisfaction, and compliance with regulatory standards. The Lending Officer exercises discretion and independent judgment in analyzing complex financial information, negotiating loan terms, and collaborating with various departments to facilitate loan funding and compliance. As a key partner to Relationship Managers (RMs), the Lending Officer collaborates closely with them to manage both new and existing commercial loans, ensuring effective and efficient portfolio management. The Lending Officer's responsibilities require expert knowledge of banking products and services, involving a high level of independent decision-making and problem-solving to ensure a superior client experience while managing the full loan lifecycle. This position also contributes to the broader strategic goals of the organization, including business development, client retention, and risk management, by engaging with clients and internal teams to deliver tailored lending solutions. Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
Independently monitors and manages the portfolio of commercial loans from IPB, ensuring compliance with bank policies and identifying areas of potential risk, improvement, or opportunity for portfolio optimization.
Independently analyzes creditworthiness by conducting detailed financial statement analysis, evaluating the credit risk against bank standards, and making informed decisions on loan approvals, modifications, and renewals. Oversees the ongoing administration of loan requirements, including ticklers, covenants, and annual reviews, ensuring operational efficiency, accuracy, and compliance with regulatory standards. Collaborates directly with clients to assess complex financial issues, propose solutions, and advocate for appropriate credit structures and services, providing expert advice and building strong relationships. Structures and completes both secured and unsecured business loans, ensuring alignment with client goals and bank risk tolerances, and making key decisions on credit terms and conditions. Prepares comprehensive loan proposals and develops customized sales strategies, leveraging deep knowledge of banking products to align with client needs and achieve bank objectives. Delivers exceptional client service by independently resolving client inquiries and concerns, ensuring seamless loan operations and enhancing the overall client experience. Evaluates business, management, industry, financial, and structural risks, documenting assessments comprehensively in credit approval documents and ensuring they align with the bank's risk profile. Cultivates and sustains strong relationships with clients, RMs, and internal partners, fostering business development, client retention, and loyalty, and contributing to the growth of the bank's commercial loan portfolio. Maintains expert-level knowledge of all bank products and services, utilizing this expertise to cross-sell and enhance client relationships, ensuring alignment with client needs and strategic goals. Organizes and leads complex sales initiatives, including customized proposal generation, to meet both client and bank objectives while making independent decisions on structuring deals. Partners with Relationship Managers (RMs) to conduct client visits, providing on-site servicing, fostering relationship-building, and identifying new business opportunities to support the achievement of set goals. Engages with Risk Partners, Sales Directors/Managers, or other Line of Business (LOB) partners during joint appointments to advance client solutions, ensuring alignment with broader bank objectives and risk management strategies.
Qualifications
- 5-7 years of experience in commercial banking.
- 2 years of experience in bank lending, including credit analysis.
Proven ability to independently manage an extensive portfolio of clients. Strong corporate finance and accounting acumen, including financial modeling experience. Expertise in evaluating creditworthiness and risk across various industries. Demonstrated ability to cultivate and sustain client relationships. Outstanding oral and written communication skills, with experience presenting to decision-making committees. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to propose effective solutions for complex client needs. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and financial analysis tools. Exceptional organizational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines. Professional sales skills, including planning, execution, and follow-up of client engagements.
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Finance, or a related field required.
