Entry-Level Environmental Engineer

S&ME is seeking an individual looking to start their career as an Entry-Level Environmental Engineer to become part of our Environmental team in Greensboro, North Carolina. Join S&ME today and help us provide engineering solutions to our clients!

What You Will Do:

As an entry-level Environmental Engineer, you will work closely with a licensed engineer to gain practical field experience in identifying and addressing various contaminants in soil, groundwater, and soil gas, as well as handling environmental permits for both private and public projects across different sectors such as municipal, healthcare, education, commercial, and industrial.

This role involves a combination of fieldwork and office tasks related to environmental site assessments, field investigations, and data collection for a range of civil and environmental projects.



  • Fieldwork responsibilities include:

    • Supervising the drilling of soil borings and the installation of monitoring wells, identifying encountered soils, overseeing well construction, and sampling groundwater and soil gas for chemical analysis, along with other necessary testing and sampling.
    • Collaborating with management, contractors, and clients to ensure project transparency and provide regular progress updates.


  • Office responsibilities include:

    • Creating data tables, presenting data graphically, and comparing soil and groundwater data to state regulatory standards.
    • Assisting in the preparation of environmental permits and reports for clients, including stormwater permits, air permits, and Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasures Plans.
    • Drafting reports and proposals for projects of various sizes, ensuring thorough and accurate assessments and documentation.





What You Are:



  • You have a Bachelor's degree in engineering, geology or related field.
  • You have experience working on, or coursework related to environmental/engineering in some of the following practice areas:

    • environmental assessment methods
    • due diligence processes
    • regulatory permitting
    • environmental compliance


  • You have good business and technical writing skills
  • You have a strong work ethic, positive attitude, ability the to collaborate within a team
  • You have an Engineer in training (EIT) license or on track to obtain
