SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

Support development and implementation of Communication & Signaling projects, with emphasis on Signal Systems. Coordinate activities with project, division, production forces and other Amtrak departments to design and implement new or modify existing C&S assets and facilities.Uses computer-aided design (CAD) software to create technical drawings to help design and build products or structures. Duties include collaborating with engineering and field personnel, generating digital drawings and schematics based on design specifications and preparing related technical documents.This position will participate in design, construction and commissioning planning and review meetings. This position supports maintaining configuration control of C&S hardware and software designs. This position provides technical expertise to other departments and makes engineering decisions for the C&S Department and their staff upon request

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:



  • Support division and production C&S forces in implementation of modifications to Amtrak's Signal system and addressing technical issues.
  • Uses CAD software to prepare technical drawings, ensure accuracy and standard compliance, and update and modify existing documents.
  • Collaborate with project and field engineers to ensure accuracy of existing designs prior to modification.
  • Maintain documentation of all comments for design and implementation plans, both internal and external.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:



  • College Degree, in lieu of education a minimum of 4 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience is needed
  • Experience with Bentley Microstation CAD
  • Knowledge of software system design concepts and processes.
  • Prior satisfactory job performance is required.


MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:



  • Ability to communicate with field personnel to ensure accuracy of signal system designs on file.
  • Ability to shift priorities at short notice.
  • Ability to analyze design sketches and specifications to create technical drawings.
  • Strong Attention to detail to ensure drawings are accurate according to specifications.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with engineers and other professionals.
  • Time Management Skills


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Bachelor's Degree required OR equivalent combination of training, education and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.


  • Extensive field knowledge of train control construction and maintenance practices
  • Qualified on NORAC, AMT-2 and RWP
  • Working knowledge of railroad circuit design as applied in signal systems.
  • Knowledge of C&S equipment (microprocessors, relay, batteries, etc.).
  • Knowledge of Amtrak's interlocking layouts and physical characteristics.


WORK ENVRIORNMENT:



  • Onsite position, may be required to work extended hours.
  • Travel to various points on the Amtrak System.
  • Occasional exposure to elements in the field.


COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:

Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

The salary/hourly range is $86,500-$111,996. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, internal equity, etc. Depending on an employee's assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee's base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
