General Information:

JMU's Facilities Management is seeking an Emergency Lighting Technician. This position is responsible for preventative maintenance of emergency lighting systems, emergency power systems, and other support systems to include automatic transfer switches and monitoring systems.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties are included but not limited to:
* Perform monthly emergency lighting checks
* Upgrade failure or obsolete lighting with LED
* Complete repairs according to code and/or JMU standards
* Complete maintenance and work orders on schedule with moderate supervision
* Track repairs and maintenance to emergency lighting systems
* Document, by building, all completed inspections for review by the State Fire Marshall
* Coordinate scheduled maintenance with inspection requirements to provide maximum operational effectiveness
* Perform routine maintenance, and repairs on various types of emergency power generators, automatic transfer switches, and generator cooling systems as needed to support building emergency circuits.
* Replace obsolete or failed automatic transfer switches and generators to include running new conduits and wire
* Generating, collecting, and maintaining accurate records

Qualifications:

Successful candidates must have:
* Knowledge of emergency lighting and power systems
* General knowledge of preventative maintenance practices as it relates to emergency power generators and lighting systems
* Willingness to learn new equipment and systems
* Mechanically and electrically inclined with a strong ability to read and understand wiring diagrams and building blueprints
* Ability to work independently or as part of a team
* Experience with basic computer skills including Microsoft Office
* Strong verbal and written communication skills
* Availability for required rotating on-call responsibilities and during periods of authorized campus closings
* Must be 19 years of age and have held a valid driver's license for a minimum of 24 months

Additional Considerations:
* Knowledge of NFPA code, as it relates to Emergency Lighting is preferable.
