JOB OVERVIEW:

Enters product sample information into LIMS. Performs preparations for and conducts level appropriate chemical and/or microbiological analysis per laboratory standard operating procedures. Must be able to react to schedule changes and rush orders. Adheres to all procedures and practices associated with Food Safety, Food Security and Food Quality.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities:

  • Performs sample preparations and extractions for chemical and/or microbiological samples.
  • Conducts level appropriate chemical and/or microbiological analyses per established procedures.
  • Enters sample identification into LIMS and ensures correctness of information and the number of samples per specification.
  • Performs routine laboratory housekeeping duties including but not limited to organizing, cleaning, sample disposal and hazardous waste disposal.
  • Completes level appropriate steps for laboratory proficiency tests.
  • Effectively prioritizes analytical workload to insure timelines are met for shipment.
  • Required to perform other tasks as needed or assigned by management.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

Education Level and Focus:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Years and Type of Related Experience Required:

  • 2 years Blue Diamond experience or 2 years prior experience in laboratory and/or QA/QC.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Basic math (arithmetic), computer skills (MS Office), and data entry (10 key at 4,000 KPM) required. Understanding of HACCP, GMPs/GLPs and lab safety practices. Must be able to read/interpret product specifications. Requires use of computer, laboratory equipment and instrumentation.

Interpersonal and Communication:

  • Must be able to communicate and maintain positive and effective working relationship within the laboratory to ensure samples are processed and cleared in a timely and accurate manner.

Technical and Analytical:

  • Position requires the ability to define problems and apply predetermined solutions that have been defined by BDG procedures. Must have a complete understanding of lab procedures, equipment and instruments. Must be able to interpret data to ensure test results are within specification.

Administration and Operations:

  • Works under general supervision. Work consists of routine tasks requiring some simple decision-making. May direct small groups of employees to perform routine tasks. Must be able to work overtime and weekends as required.

Authorities:

  • Authority to temporarily halt work when concerns that can lead to a nonconformity are identified. Authority to initiate CAR/PAR, make recommendations for continuous improvement, assist in problem resolution.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs, use stairs and industrial equipment.

Work Environment:

  • Primarily works in a laboratory environment with hazardous chemicals and microbiological agents. May complete work in Production Facilities and may be exposed to heat, cold, high humidity, dust and noise. May be required to work around machinery and moving vehicles.

Special Equipment Used:

  • Knowledge of general laboratory equipment, computer applications, respirator, and transporter.

Educational Requirements:

  • Must have high school diploma or equivalent.
