CAPS works collaboratively with students to provide compassionate, comprehensive, and inclusive mental health services that foster emotional and personal development. Through counseling, outreach, campus partnerships, and education and training, we engage with the entire GW community to promote a campus culture of holistic well-being.
CAPS is seeking a highly skilled clinician to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise in clinical practice and excel at working as part of an integrative team, with a commitment to promoting student well-being, academic, emotional, and personal success.
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Clinical Services, the Staff Clinician will provide direct clinical services to GW students within the Student Health Center's Counseling and Psychological Services (
CAPS).
Job Duties
- Providing initial consultations, individual counseling, group counseling, referrals, crisis and on call, and coordination of care. Approx. 20-25 clinical hours a week, and more as needed.
- Maintaining thorough, accurate and timely clinical documentation in EHR according to established protocols.
- Providing outreach services to meet the mental health needs of the University community, including academic support programs,
educational workshops, personal skill development groups, consultation and training programs for faculty and staff. - Attending training and professional development opportunities for continuing education credits (CEUs) to maintain D.C. licensure, in good standing.
- The position is based at GW's Foggy Bottom Campus in Washington, DC. The incumbent may perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications: |
Qualified candidates will hold an advanced degree in a mental health discipline (psychology, social work, or counseling), plus one (1) year of relevant professional experience. Licensed in Washington, D.C. or eligibility for Washington, D.C. clinical license within six months of hire. |
Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: |
- Independent license in appropriate area of mental health, including either license to practice in the District of Columbia or ability to obtain license for the District of Columbia prior to start date.
- One year of applied clinical experience in counseling.

Preferred Qualifications: |
- Experience working clinically with undergraduate and graduate college students is preferred.
- Demonstrate competence in culturally competent clinical and crisis intervention skills is desired.
