About the Department: The Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Medicine is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Associate to join our team. Our department's research mission is to conduct both basic and translational research at the highest scientific level. Faculty members are committed to advancing path-breaking discoveries in cellular and molecular biochemistry, with key research programs in cancer and disease-centered computational genomics.

Position Overview: The successful candidate will work under the direct supervision of Dr. Ed Seto, focusing on the functions of histone deacetylases (HDACs) in cancer biology. This position offers the opportunity to conduct cutting-edge research utilizing both cell cultures and mouse animal models. As a Postdoctoral Associate, you will play a pivotal role in planning, designing, and executing experiments in a controlled laboratory environment.
This role is primarily a training position, designed for individuals seeking to build their research expertise and contribute substantively to advancing scientific knowledge. You will work closely with Dr. Seto to plan and conduct independent research, analyze and interpret data, publish results, and participate in conferences and meetings. Additionally, you may have the opportunity to lead and mentor junior research staff.

Responsibilities:
Design and implement research protocols, ensuring safety procedures are followed and adapting methods or instrumentation as needed.
Collect, prepare, and analyze data, maintaining detailed records and preparing materials for publication in scientific journals.
Summarize findings and present data at research conferences.
Supervise laboratory personnel, including training fellows, residents, students, and volunteer workers.
Manage laboratory operations, including reagent preparation, equipment maintenance, and animal care.
Assist with procurement, lab organization, and general laboratory maintenance.

Qualifications:
PhD or equivalent degree in a closely related field.
Excellent problem-solving, analytical, communication, and writing skills.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Position Requirements:
Postdoctoral Associates develop advanced research skills while working closely with faculty mentors on scholarly projects.
The position is funded through grants, contracts, or departmental funds secured by the faculty mentor.
The term of the appointment is typically up to five years.
As a Postdoctoral Associate at GW, you will be mentored by experienced researchers who will provide guidance on both research directions and career planning for a future independent career in academia or industry.

Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must have fulfilled all requirements for the award of a PhD or equivalent qualification in a relevant field by the date of employment.
Desired Qualifications:
Experience in molecular biology, biochemistry, or cancer biology is desirable.
Hiring Range $61,008 - $61,884
