About the opportunity

SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking a Project-Level GIS Analyst for our Broomfield, CO or Ft. Collins, CO offices. The position will primarily support the geospatial needs of one of our key wind power and electric transmission clients, but will also support our broader natural and cultural resources programs. This a full-time, hourly, regular position, with full SWCA benefits. Hybrid work environments are encouraged for our Front Range staff. For highly qualified candidates, remote (= distributed) work locations may be considered in the Rocky Mountain or Central time zones.

This opening can hire at two different levels:

  • Assistant Project Geospatial Scientist: Typically with at least three (3) years of relevant industry experience and expertise
  • Associate Project Geospatial Scientist: Typically with at least five (5) years of relevant industry experience and expertise.

What you will accomplish

  • Support the GIS team for a major renewable energy and electric transmission client, and coordinate directly with project managers to ensure that deliverables are provided on time and on budget
  • Ensure that geospatial data is collected and maintained with integrity and completeness
  • Follow data management Best Practices and provide technical support for a variety of mobile data collection systems including ESRI's Field Maps and Survey123 applications
  • Maintain quality of work consistent with SWCA's standards and practices
  • Use Esri ArcGIS Pro for data management, production/editing, spatial analytics; and for efficient production of high-quality field maps and report figures
  • Use workflows integrating traditional desktop GIS and ESRI's Web GIS platforms, including ArcGIS Online, and Portal.
  • Contribute to a collaborative work environment including project managers and other GIS specialists

Experience and qualifications for success

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Geography, Cartography, Archaeology, Biology, Environmental Science or related field with an emphasis in GIS;
  • Minimum of three (3) years of geospatial work experience beyond university attendance
  • Demonstrated knowledge of cartography and computer mapping, including design principles and understanding map creation procedures in ArcGIS
  • Proficiency working with complex data sets and an ability to apply creative solutions to spatial problems
  • Demonstrated ability for data transfer, data analysis, data mining, and data inventory using a variety of software applications (e.g., Excel, Access, Esri ArcGIS)
  • General understanding of basic statistics, and geometric math computations (e.g., summary, distributions, frequency, min/max, range, angles, distance, slope, degrees, area)
  • Demonstrated experience with GPS technology, field data collection techniques, data integration to GIS
  • Demonstrated ability to perform spatial analyses while maintaining data integrity

Preferred

  • Master's degree in Geography, Cartography, Archaeology, Biology, Environmental Science or related field with an emphasis in GIS OR a minimum of five (5) years of professional (geospatial) work beyond university attendance
  • Demonstrated experience with automation of common processes using tools such as ArcGIS model builder, python scripting, java script, or other programming/scripting languages
  • Ability to produce presentations, and/or written protocol of methods for reports or within metadata to replicate GIS-related analyses or modeling techniques applied on projects
  • Prior work experience with the energy/utilities sector (helpful)
  • Ability to take direction, listen keenly to instructions, and work well with a team

An employee in this Denver, CO -based position can expect an hourly rate of: Assistant Project Geospatial Scientist -- $28.94/hour to $37.13/hour; Associate Project Geospatial Scientist -- $32.49/hour to $41.77/hour. Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law. Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
