Job Description:

PRIMARY PURPOSE/GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Provide TA and Tutor support for Summer Chemistry faculty of the Keck Science Department, through the Post-Bac Pre-Med Program.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

This information is intended to be a descriptive of the key responsibilities of the position.The list of essential functions below does not identify all duties performed by any single incumbent in this position.Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Under the direction of the Chemistry lab instructor, set up and clean up lab for Chemistry 14 & 15
  • Mixes chemicals/prepares lab experiments
  • Tutor approximately 24 summer students in the scientific and mathematical concepts necessary for chemistry 14 & 15.
  • The position reports to the lecture instructor, for the Chemistry 14 & 15 courses.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

Individuals must possess knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the essential functions of the position or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

  • Experience with lab set up & clean up
  • Experience tutoring Chemistry
  • Successful completion of Chemistry 14 & 15
  • Ability to work independently and with others.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Some college coursework or recent college graduate preferredor any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Previous TA and Tutor experience is preferred.

None.

HOURS & CLASSIFICATION AND STATUS:

This is a temporary status, no more than 30 hours per week, non-benefits eligible, non-exempt position.

This temporary assignment is expected to begin on May 27, 2025, and end on or before July 18, 2025.

Hoursmay vary due to the needs of the department or College.

Hourly rate: $16.50. The hourly rate of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty, andtraining.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

None.
