General Information:

The College of Arts and Letters Dean's Office seeks internal applications for an Associate Dean who will provide oversight and leadership for communications and marketing, student academic affairs, and undergraduate teaching and curriculum.

This is a JMU only recruitment. Only current JMU employees are eligible to apply.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Specifically, this portfolio includes (but is not limited to) the following areas:

* Supervise the CAL Communications and Marketing Specialist; assist with all digital (web, social) and print (including Arts and Letters Review) content for the college (strategy, planning and execution)
o Create marketing initiatives such as promotion of funds for Giving Day
o Liaise with Academic Affairs Communications about college news
o Coordinate Contact Lists for Arts and Letters Review, donors, alumni

* Handle student academic affairs for the College (probation and reinstatement; repeat/forgive requests; grade appeals; substitutions and waivers, etc.)
o Serve on Improving Registration Committee and Class Scheduling Committee
o Liaise with Academic Questions, AUHs, Parents

* Support Pedagogy and Teaching (Course Development Grants and Teaching Talks, advise AUHs about policies and practices, administer first week attendance drops)

* Assist with CAL curriculum initiatives (new minors and programs, including proposal and curriculum process, administration, and recruiting students)

* Chair, CAL Graduate C&I; serve also as CAL representative to University C& I; RPAG (Restricted Programs Advisory Group); Graduate Council (non-voting); and the ADean Working Group (ADWG) curriculum committee

* Serve as Chair of Media Board, which works with 4 student organizations: The Breeze (including Breeze TV), Iris, The Bluestone, and WXJM

Qualifications:

Qualifications:
* An earned terminal degree in a relevant discipline from an accredited institution of higher education
* A tenured Associate or Full Professor at JMU
* A strong record of teaching, scholarship, and service
* Evidence of excellent written and oral communication skills as well as interpersonal skills
* Strong record of supporting students

Preferred:
* Administrative experience
* Supervisory experience
* Project management experience
