Job Summary

Building on The Aerospace Corporation's reputation as a trusted, impartial advisor with integrity and dedication to mission success, the Civil Systems Group (CSG) combines deep technical expertise with market-leading innovation to help our customers solve complex systems engineering and integration challenges. CSG is organized by core customer-facing lines of business to manage and grow programs within NASA, NOAA, and the NNSA, while extending our capabilities to other civilian federal government agencies fully integrated within Aerospace rules, regulations, processes, values, and behaviors.

The Strategic Assessments, Studies, and Projects (SASP) Division of the Civil Systems Group (CSG) conducts independent programmatic assessments and strategic studies to support NASA and other civil customers in agency-level strategic decision-making for future programs and projects. Typical products and services provided by SASP include:

  • Independent cost/schedule estimates and risk assessments throughout the program development lifecycle
  • Detailed assessments of programs data to provide insights into program health and status
  • Continued development of programmatic capabilities and tools

Work Model:

This position will be a hybrid work model and offer partially remote with 3-4 days a week onsite work in El Segundo, CA, or Crystal City, DC.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Support senior staff on programmatic assessments and technical studies to assist NASA and other civil customers in agency-level strategic decision-making on both current and future programs.
  • Work includes performing cost and schedule analysis on programs throughout the development lifecycle, detailed assessments of earned value data, and technical risk assessments to inform program risk posture and assess programmatic health and status.
  • Typical products and services are independent cost/schedule estimates, comprehensive programmatic assessments, architecture studies, engineering assessments, strategic studies, and development of capabilities/tools.
  • Studies may involve analysis of best practices, standards, policies and may span across NASA mission directorates and other civil agencies.
  • Work also includes supporting senior staff on execution and integration of the final analysis products and presentation to the customer
  • Support also includes utilizing and developing databases, data sources, and data-driven analytical models
  • Candidates should be able to work and communicate effectively as part of a team in a fast paced, rapidly changing environment, react quickly to changing requirements and schedules, and provide products of consistently high quality
  • Candidates must be able to effectively work with multiple projects simultaneously
  • Candidate should be able to summarize and present analysis findings to senior staff and customers
  • Travel may be required to support various customers

What You Need to be Successful

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering, systems engineering, computer science or related fields from an accredited institution (Pursing or conferred within the last 12 months)
  • GPA 3.0/4.0 or higher
  • Strong proficiency in Excel, including experience conducting analyses and developing analytical models
  • Interest in cost/schedule estimating, risk assessment, architectural studies, and development of analytical models and capabilities
  • Dependability, good interpersonal skills, and demonstrated ability to work on teams
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Strong organizational, time management and project management skills
  • This position requires ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

How You Can Stand Out

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:

  • Experience or coursework in cost, schedule, and risk assessments
  • Course work or experience with developing analytical and parametric models using Excel or other programming languages
  • Knowledge of the basics of spacecraft design and space programs
  • Active security clearance

The grade-based pay range for this job is listed below. Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.

$80,000 - $90,000 Pay Basis: Annual
