Responsibilities & Expectations:
You'll perform on-site and in-shop testing, maintenance, troubleshooting, and installation of relays and associated protection of many types of electrical power apparatuses - including switchgears and breakers. This position reports to the Engineering Manager and will involve working with engineers, technicians, administrative personnel, suppliers, and end customers. This is primarily an office position with frequent field travel to jobsites.
- Calibrate and test electromechanical relays and meters
- Program and test solid-state and microprocessor-based relays and meters
- Perform functional testing of protection and control systems
- Lead the installation, testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of power circuit breakers and switchgears
- Operate and maintain various types of test equipment
- Coordinate with other departments on troubleshooting tasks and customer needs and specifications
- Own testing processes and procedures - recommend improvements as needed to supervisors/managers
- Keep a good understanding of control and wiring diagrams and compare to accepted engineering and customer standards
- Create effective reporting to present test results back to internal team and customers
Qualifications and Competencies:
- 5+ years experience in Relay Testing and Installation
- Technical Electrical Trade School Degree or Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, a plus
- Must have strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.)
- Must have a strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy
- Must have strong written and verbal communication skills
- Must have good customer relations skills and able to remain calm during stressful situations
- Ability to work under pressure in a challenging fast-paced environment
- Ability to take direction and act independently. Must also be able to work well with a team
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, stay organized
- Must be a self-starter and able to make quick decisions
- Must show a history of being reliable and dependable. Ability to work overtime as required
- Physical duties of the job include: bending, lifting, carrying, squatting, climbing ladders, working in confined spaces, or standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time
- Be willing to wear Personal Protective Equipment and work around industrial equipment
- Be willing to travel and work in several different geographic locations (indoors & outdoors)
- Driving to jobs is a regular function of this role.
- Must be willing to confidently submit to the background and drug screening process
