Overview

This is a remote role that may be hired in several markets across the United States.

Credit Review (CR) is a key department within First Citizens Bank's (FCB's) second line of defense (2nd LOD). Its mission is to provide executive management and the Board of Directors with an independent view of asset quality and credit risk management practices effectiveness across business units and support functions that originate or manage credit exposure. The team is comprised of risk management professionals with deep credit analysis, product knowledge, and transaction skills and experiences across various asset classes, industries, and stages of the client lifecycle.

A critical enabling group within CR is its Strategy, Operations, Analytics, and Reporting (SOAR) team. SOAR enables CR's success by delivering centralized support across the core competencies of methodology, policy, and process; operations, planning, and budgeting; executive and Board reporting; workforce management; data analytics, technology strategy, and tool management; strategic initiatives and project management; external stakeholder relations; and internal quality assurance.

The Credit Review Data Analyst position is a key contributor on CR's SOAR team that is responsible for provisioning, managing, and performing credit data analyses in support of CR's risk assessment, examination, and portfolio surveillance activities. The incumbent works independently as well as in collaboration with other CR team members to develop analytics and generate concise visualizations that monitor trends, surface insights, and identify potential credit quality deterioration and/or risk management deficiencies that require further attention and/or escalation to senior management. The incumbent also assists in the construction of portfolio samples for testing, supports the operation of CR's workflow tools, and contributes to special projects and other department operational processes in furtherance of CR's mission. As such, the position has an outsized influence on helping CR operate cohesively, efficiently, and effectively while delivering on its mandate, while providing the incumbent with exposure to various portfolios and products as well as significant engagement with stakeholders from across CR and the Bank. The Credit Review Data Analyst reports to the Director of SOAR who reports to FCB's Head of Credit Review.


Responsibilities

  • Source, manage, and analyze portfolio data in support of CR's credit risk assessment, examination, and continuous monitoring activities, including analyzing asset quality, underwriting and financial trends, payment performance, and relevant market, industry, and regulatory developments to identify emerging risks or trends.
  • Support the development, maintenance, and ongoing enhancement of CR's internally generated data and related analytics, reporting, and workflow technology tools, including but not limited to our document repository.
  • Design and create standardized and customized data visualizations and reports summarizing portfolio asset quality and CR operational information for CR examiners, management, and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain appropriate process and control documentation of CR's data provisioning, transformation, and usage activities to enhance transparency and replication by third parties as needed.
  • Support the enhancement and ongoing execution of critical department operational processes such as annual planning, resource capacity and deployment analysis, staff skills assessments, financial budget management, issue tracking, Board reporting, and interactions with supervisory agencies and external auditors.
  • Develop collaborative working relationships with CR and Bank stakeholders to monitor portfolio developments, promote knowledge sharing, exchanges of best practices, and foster a positive work environment consistent with Bank values.
  • Participate in special projects as needed in support of achieving CR's objectives.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of experience in Banking, financial or other directly related industry OR High School Diploma or GED and 10 years of experience in Banking, financial or other directly related industry

Preferred Area of Study: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, information management

  • MBA or other advanced degree or certification is a plus.
  • 3-8 years of banking, financial services, consulting, or equivalent experience, including significant data analytics and reporting experience. Experience with lending, finance, and risk management methodologies and processes is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to analyze portfolio trends at a macro level, identify leading/lagging indicators or other signs of changing risk levels and/or process breakdowns is a plus.
  • Demonstrated track record using technology or analytics applications to achieve business objectives, such Oracle PL/SQL, Business Objects, SAS, Sharepoint, or similar data and file management applications.
  • Expertise with data visualization tools including Power BI and/or Tableau to convert data into meaningful dashboards.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written, with strong data lineage, management, and control documentation skills.
  • A high degree of professional maturity appropriate for interactions with Bank stakeholders beyond the CR department.
  • Strong attention to detail, a dedication to quality, and enthusiasm for learning. Eagerness to remain current on Bank, market, and industry developments to keep skills current and sharp.

Willingness to travel 0-10% if needed

If hired in NC, PA, SC, or UT, the base pay for this position is generally between $125,000.00 and $170,000.00. If hired in AZ, TX, or CA, the base pay for this position is generally between $135,000.00 and $185,000.00. Actual starting base pay will be determined based on skills, experience, location, and other non-discriminatory factors permitted by law. For some roles, total compensation may also include variable incentives, bonuses, benefits, and/or other awards as outlined in the offer of employment.
