Summary of Position

The ASTM Additive Manufacturing Center of Excellence (AM CoE) was established in 2018 to accelerate Industry adoption of Additive Manufacturing through fast-tracking Standardization. The AM CoE has now grown significantly with a wide range of technically challenging and globally recognized funded programs, a full suite of advanced training offerings, a large-scale Consortium for Materials Data and Standardization, advisory services, and a number of other programs to enable industrialization of AM technologies.

We are seeking an experienced Additive Manufacturing Materials Engineer with a strong background in materials engineering to join our dynamic engineering team. The successful candidate will lead and manage projects focused on the development and implementation of advanced materials and manufacturing processes. This role requires a deep understanding of material properties, fatigue and fracture behavior, as well as the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive innovation and achieve project goals.

Top-level activities can include (not exhaustive):

  1. Technical Leadership: Drive AM initiatives related to materials, inspection, and quality assurance. Identify opportunities for standardization and innovation. This role will lead technical activities and be responsible for delivering time, quality, and cost.
  2. Program Development: Develop and manage technical programs, both new and existing, to advance AM knowledge and capabilities.
  3. Collaboration and Business Development: Foster partnerships, lead at workshops and conferences, and contribute to the growth of the AM CoE.

Please note that some domestic/international travel will be required for this position, but most of the work will be remote. Applicants should be based in the USA.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering
  • 3+ years or more of technical experience in relevant discipline
  • Demonstrated experience in Material Science, or related technologies
  • Knowledge of Additive Manufacturing would be beneficial
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Project management experience
  • Willing to learn and adapt with emerging technologies
  • Proven ability to work in a team with good interpersonal skills
  • Self-starter with exceptional attention to detail
  • Technically motivated to solve problems and have the creativity to initiate new ideas
  • Can-do attitude and independent decision-making abilities
  • Passion for innovation, technology, and enterprise development
  • Able to manage fast-pace work environment and manage competing priorities
  • Must be US person (Green card holder or US Citizen)

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

  • 5+ years or more of technical experience in Material Science and Engineering or relevant discipline
  • Master's degree in engineering (or PhD)
  • Knowledge of topics such as (ideally based on Additive Manufacturing experience):
  • Fatigue & Fracture behavior of materials
  • Materials Allowable Generation
  • Quality Management for Manufacturing
  • Qualification & Certification Methods, and knowledge of regulations & requirements
  • Demonstrate experience of leading & managing technical projects
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts effectively with all levels of management and translate them into meaningful project outcomes
  • Experience in standards development and participation in technical committees
  • Experience in writing/leading technical proposals for funded projects
  • Experience in dealing with government grants and awards
  • Living around DMV (DC, Maryland and Virginia) area would be plus
