DESCRIPTION

There is currently one (1) vacancy for Water Reclamation Operator I/II/III Flex. The Department desires to fill the position at the level of an Operator III; however, the eligibility list established from this recruitment may be used to fill current and future vacancies as they occur at any level of the series.

Water Reclamation Operator I: $5,002 - $6,080 monthly

Water Reclamation Operator II: $6,107 - $7,423 monthly

Water Reclamation Operator III: $7,455 - $9,062 monthly

Employees will receive $500.00 per month for earning a grade four (4) Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certification or $1,025.00 per month for earning a grade five (5) Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certification from the State of California's Water Resources Control Board.

Knowledge & Education

  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade, supplemented by college level coursework in water reclamation treatment technology or a related field.
  • Knowledge of principles of wastewater treatment and water reclamation processes including conventional activated sludge, enhanced primary treatment, extended aeration, membrane bioreactor, anaerobic digestion, dewatering, biosolids drying, and ditch processes.
  • Knowledge of relevant chemicals used in water reclamation.
  • Knowledge of supervisory control and data acquisition systems (SCADA).

Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to operate and maintain all aspects of the City's water reclamation treatment system and related facilities and equipment.
  • Ability to operate a wide variety of pumping, treatment, control, and transmission equipment, including remote operation via SCADA equipment.
  • Ability to analyze facility processes and equipment and lift station performance data to identify inefficient or malfunctioning operations and discern possible causes.

Experience

Certification may be substituted for experience consistent with the California State Water Resources Control Board certification requirements for Wastewater Operators.

Water Reclamation Operator I:

  • One (1) year of experience working in water reclamation treatment facility operations involving primary, biological, secondary, and tertiary phases of treatment or a related field.

Water Reclamation Operator II:

  • Two (2) years of experience working in water reclamation treatment facility operations involving primary, biological, secondary, and tertiary phases of treatment, including 18 months of experience equivalent to a Water Reclamation Operator I with the City of Corona.

Water Reclamation Operator III:

  • Four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience working in water reclamation treatment facility operations involving primary, biological, secondary, and tertiary phases of treatment, including three (3) years of experience equivalent to a Water Reclamation Operator II with the City of Corona.

Licenses and Certifications

Water Reclamation Operator I:

  • Possession of, or successful acquisition within 12 months of employment, a valid Grade I Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certificate, to be maintained throughout employment.

Water Reclamation Operator II:

  • Possession of a valid Grade I Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certificate upon appointment.
  • Possession of, or successful acquisition within 12 months of employment, a valid Grade II Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certificate, to be maintained throughout employment.

Water Reclamation Operator III:

  • Possession of a valid Grade III Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certificate upon appointment, to be maintained throughout employment.

Candidates that successfully pass the screening process and are deemed to possess the most desirable qualifications will be invited to an in-person oral interview. Tentative in-person interviews are scheduled for March 12, 2025. The top scoring candidates from the oral interview will be placed on an eligibility list from which the department may hire. The eligibility list established from this recruitment may also be used to fill the current and/or additional vacancies throughout the City.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo a reference / background check including livescan and pass a pre-employment medical examination (which will include a drug/alcohol screening).

The Organization

The City of Corona is a General Law city operating under a Council-Manager form of government. The Mayor is selected by the Council and serves as the presiding officer for one year.
