The Transformer Test Operator is responsible for performing comprehensive electrical and functional tests on remanufactured transformers to verify quality, safety, and performance standards before delivery. This role involves testing units that have been rebuilt or refurbished to meet original equipment specifications or customer requirements.

  • Perform basic electrical testing on remanufactured transformers, including but not limited to insulation resistance, turns ratio, winding resistance, and high-potential (Hi-Pot) tests.
  • Set up and operate specialized test equipment safely and accurately in accordance with company procedures and industry standards (IEEE, ANSI, UL, CSA, or customer-specific).
  • Identify and document test results, reporting any defects, anomalies, understanding nameplates and identifying failures to the Quality or Engineering teams.
  • Verify wiring, connections, and component integrity on remanufactured units prior to testing.
  • Ensure that all remanufactured transformers comply with safety and performance specifications.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and diagnosing electrical issues (circuit, insulation other) on remanufactured units during test failures.
  • Understand test protocols and tools such as DGA basics, winding resistance and understanding LTC (test) operation
  • Follow proper safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) during all high-voltage testing.
  • Maintain test equipment calibration and maintenance/cleanliness; report any equipment malfunctions and work with 3rd party vendors as necessary.
  • Collaborate with production, quality, and engineering departments to support continuous improvement and process enhancements.
  • Keep accurate and detailed records of testing data and maintain compliance with internal and external quality standards.
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical training or associate degree in electrical technology or related field preferred.
  • Prior experience (3-5 years) in electrical testing, preferably with remanufactured or rebuilt electrical equipment such as transformers.
  • Knowledge of transformer construction and electrical principles related to remanufactured units.
  • Electrical Engineering Knowledge: Strong understanding of electrical theory, transformer operation, and testing procedures.
  • Proficiency in using electrical test equipment such as turns ratio testers (TTR), megohmmeters (Megger), Hi-Pot testers, and other diagnostic tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, test procedures and analytical skills in interpreting data (identify patterns, making informed decisions)
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to document results accurately.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and best practices related to high-voltage testing.
  • Ability to stand, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs during testing and setup activities.
  • Comfortable working in a manufacturing shop floor environment with exposure to electrical equipment and noise.
  • Must adhere strictly to safety protocols when working around energized equipment.
