Job Summary: The Academic Advisor I provides guidance to University students on academic progress, courses, University resources, etc. Identifies courses to be completed in upcoming semesters. Explains University and College policies. May teach compass course as needed. Additional Department Summary: Advises undergraduate students daily to discuss academic, personal and pre-professional concerns, registration, and degree progress using a variety of reporting tools and maintenance of appropriate records. Academic Advisor I will oversee various coordinating responsibilities, programs and activities for undergraduate students in the college. This position advises students with a focus on exploration, goals, adjustment and first year concerns. Academic Advisor I will meet with prospective students and parents providing guidance and information on the college, its majors, campus life and student involvement. This position will provide assistance with new student orientation. Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or higher. Skills and Knowledge: Demonstrate sensitivity to needs of a population from various backgrounds. Excellent oral and written communication skills including public speaking. Advising with a focus on exploration, adjustment and student success. Ability to interpret student needs and determine appropriate recommendations and referrals. Knowledge of the theory, principles and practices related to academic advising. Ability to collaborate with various campus partners. Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree is preferred due to the responsibilities of this position. Relevant experience with Banner and DegreeWorks. Strong organizational skills and detail oriented.
