Chem-Aqua - Sr. Equipment Engineering Manager

The Sr. Equipment Engineering Managerwill continually improve our equipment line by simplifying, providing better training, instruction, and drawings, to minimize the time spent by our field force for equipment installation and start-up, while maximizing the time available for the pursuit of new chemical sales and business.

Mission: To provide quality, reliable, cost effective, pretreatment and chemical feed systems, which require a minimum of installation time and mechanical/electrical expertise of our sales force and customers. Our primary business and revenue stream is the sale of water treatment chemicals. The primary goal of the Chem-Aqua Application Engineer is to continually improve our equipment line by simplifying, providing better training, instruction, and drawings, to minimize the time spent by our field force for equipment installation and start-up, while maximizing the time available for the pursuit of new chemical sales and business.

Purpose of the Job: Responsible for managing a team of engineers, coordinating engineering efforts, and ensuring the successful design, implementation, and maintenance of water treatment equipment systems including ion exchange, membrane filtration, sediment filtration, disinfection, and chemical feed and control systems.

Level of Authority: Performs work under direct supervision of V.P. of Equipment Operations and is given full responsibility for engineering operations related to water treatment equipment, including equipment design, development, and optimization.

Work Environment: Work is to be performed in office, manufacturing, and field environments. Work in manufacturing and field environments will be performed in varying weather conditions and with usual hazards associated with chemical and mechanical process environments.



Work Hours: Normal weekday office hours are 8 AM to 5 PM Monday through Friday. Due to the nature of our business occasional night, weekend, and holiday hours may be required to meet the needs of our customers.

Travel: Travel required is less than 15%. Day and/or overnight travel are required for much of the work performed in the field.

Essential Job Functions:



  • Lead the design, development, and improvement of water treatment systems and equipment, from initial concept to implementation.


  • Foster a collaborative and innovative team environment, promoting continuous learning and professional growth.


  • Prepare written equipment quotations and technical instructions for field personnel using Microsoft Word and Excel.


  • Draft scaled mechanical and electrical drawings of water treatment equipment using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.


  • Program Allen-Bradley Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) using Rockwell Automation Software.


  • Use Oracle to create items codes, build bill of materials (BOMs), requisition parts, and establish routing times for manufactured items.


  • Coordinate with operations, procurement, and quality assurance teams to ensure equipment is built to specifications defined by the engineering team.


  • Write equipment installation and technical manuals and review for accuracy.


  • Provide engineering support for Chem-Aqua's 500 sales representatives across North America, offering assistance in sales, technical guidance, system startups, and troubleshooting.

  • Train employees, field personnel, and customers in the equipment, tools, work techniques, and skills required to accomplish assignments.



Qualifications and Capabilities

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering


  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in equipment engineering related to water treatment with at least 3 of management experience.


  • Strong knowledge of water treatment technologies, including ion exchange, membrane filtration, sediment filtration, disinfection, and chemical treatment process for cooling, boiler, and wastewater.


  • Proven experience in leading engineering teams and managing projects.


  • In-depth understanding of engineering design principles.


  • Proficient in SolidWorks and AutoCAD software programs.


  • Experience programming Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)


  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.


  • Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
