Whether you need a new design, rehabilitation, inspection, risk assessment, or permitting assistance, we provide resilient water management systems to reduce risk, sustain water supplies and protective works, and safeguard communities. Our designs serve clients' needs for water supply, flood damage reduction, navigation, and recreation.

Gannett Fleming TranSystems is seeking Civil/Structural Engineers to support the design and construction of critical infrastructure projects in Northern California.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to collaborate directly with other civil/structural engineers, geotechnical engineers and geologists to implement innovative design solutions through all phases of a project's lifecycle. Our engineering team excels in tackling the most challenging civil/structural assignments to provide innovative solutions for dams, foundations, underground construction, earth structures, and water conveyance structures. Our engineers are experts in dam stability and seepage, earth retention structures, and structure foundations.

We have completed thousands of water conveyance and dam projects across the U.S., ranging from small-scale repairs to large projects on some of the most complex dams, spillways, canals, flumes, penstocks, piers, and underground structures. Our diverse portfolio also includes transportation facilities (roadways, rail, buildings and bridges), water conveyance structures (levees, tunnels, pipelines), stream restoration, and more helping to address California's critical engineering challenges.

In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Performing routine and complex design, analysis, and engineering calculations, including concrete and steel structures, foundation support, and earth retaining structures.
  • Assisting with the preparation of construction drawings, technical reports/memoranda, specifications, quantities of materials, and cost estimates to meet scope, schedule, cost, and regulatory requirements.
  • Reviewing shop drawings to determine conformance with the contract documents.
  • Attending client meetings and participates under direct supervision of project manager.
  • Communicating with clients and construction personnel to implement appropriate designs and project solutions under supervision of project manager.
  • Field work including inspections of existing infrastructure and construction observation may comprise up to 30% of the position. This includes travel to client locations or project sites, and may include overnight stays.
  • Able to work in multi-disciplinary teams.
Education | Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, with structural emphasis preferred
  • Master's Degree in Civil Engineering preferred
  • Engineer in Training (E.I.T.) certification required with the ability to obtain Professional Engineer (P.E.) license within one year
  • 4 or more years of direct work experience in civil engineering
  • Experience in advanced design software applications preferred (Tedds, SAP, AutoCAD, Civil3D, etc.)
  • Willingness to tackle the unique engineering challenges related to aging infrastructure, with an understanding of civil/structural engineering principles, concepts, and practices applied to water conveyance and earth retention structures
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in standard office software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Experience with project proposals and presentations preferred
  • Some experience with management of small work groups and project tasks
