Position Highlights

The School of Art (SoA) at the University of Arizona invites applications for a temporary Curatorial Assistant II (Gallery Support) position. This position oversees coordination and logistics for SoA exhibition programming and operations while serving as a temporary replacement for our Gallery Director / Joseph F Gross Endowed Curator.

The Curatorial Assistant produces and installs all exhibitions, coordinates and oversees promotion of public events; supervises Student Gallery Managers; collaborates with on-and off-campus partners and organizations; and serves as the public face of SoA galleries. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in exhibition installation/art handling and contemporary curatorial practice. Duties & Responsibilities
  • Prepare and install BFA Exhibition in Joseph Gross Gallery
  • Oversee MFA Thesis student installations in Joseph Gross Gallery and Center for Creative Photography
  • Collaborate with SoA Staff to coordinate events related to the BFA Senior Exhibition and the MFA Thesis Exhibition (held in partnership with the Center for Creative Photography).
  • Oversee installation and deinstallation in student-produced exhibitions in Lionel Rombach Gallery in collaboration with undergraduate and graduate Student Gallery Managers
  • Support marketing and public relations, in coordination with the Director and SoA Communications staff, for events related to gallery programs (including website, posters, fliers, press releases, and other announcements)
  • Work with SoA Admin to ensure proper budget reporting and appropriate accounting records are maintained.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Strong fabrication and art handling skills
  • Fluency with basic power tools, hand tools and hardware.
  • Ability to manage several simultaneous projects
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Knowledge of the contemporary art, gallery, and museum field(s)

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Must be able to climb ladders up to 12'.
  • Must be able to reach, stretch, twist, and bend while using various tools
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or high school diploma equivalency is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience coordinating programming in an academic setting.
  • Management or supervisory experience.
  • Experience in contemporary curatorial practice as well as a track record building institutional and community collaborations and partnerships.
  • Experience in public programming and outreach.
  • Experience related to gallery management and/or art handling.
  • Experience in developing programming that recognizes and supports diverse communities.
