POSITION SPECIFICS

TheBordenstein labin theOne Health Microbiome Center and Departments of Biology and Entomologyat The Pennsylvania State University is seeking multipleResearchers. The Researcher position willfocus on the use ofDrosophilatransgenic expression, genetic editing techniques such as RNAi or knockout mutants, fitness assays, reproductive tissue dissections, fluorescent and electron microscopy, microinjections, frequent and large experimental setups with flies, and team management to understand the genetics and mechanisms of how endosymbiotic bacteria (Wolbachia)modify reproduction inDrosophila melanogaster. Studies in microbiome projects may also be a part of the work.Candidates with an interest and background in entomology, transgenics, proteomics, molecular biology, biochemistry, phage biology, microbiomes, and gene expression are highly encouraged to apply.

The position prefers research experience in molecular biology, entomology, and symbiosis. Preference will also be given to individuals with experience in excellent record keeping, protocol design, husbandry of multiple insect species, statistics, and laboratory upkeep. The researcher should possess a master's degree or its equivalent, or be an active candidate for a terminal degree, in an academic field related to their research. A degree in Biology is preferred.
