POSITION SUMMARY
Well established workers' compensation fund located in downtown Orlando is seeking a Staff Accountant to join our team! The Staff Accountant will be a valuable addition to our Accounting Team as they will prepare and maintain financial recordsto track the organizations assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities. The successful candidate must possess both personal integrity and meticulous attention to detail. This position will report directly to the Controller.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESinclude but not limited to:

  • Prepare journal entries and reconciliations.
  • Responsible for cutting checks weekly and preparing positive pay files for accounts payable, premium refunds and dividends.
  • Support year-end financial statement audits by preparing workpapers and working directly with external auditors.
  • Complete bank and credit card reconciliations.
  • Maintain fixed assets listing and assign assets to team members.
  • Perform research as needed in policyholder system.
  • Assist with budget reporting.
  • Identify and evaluate opportunities for process improvements.
  • Assist in the implementation of new systems.
  • Work on special projects as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES)
  • B.S. in Accounting or related field. CPA preferred, but not required.
  • A minimum of three years of accounting experience. Workers comp regulatory reporting and insurance industry experience is a plus.
    • Current knowledge of QuickBooks, including posting of journal entries, reconciling bank accounts, processing payables, reports, etc.
    • Advanced computer skills, including advanced proficiency in MS Office, especially in Excel.
  • Must be extremely analytical and possess quality control; the individual needs to demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness.
  • Be extremely organized with eagerness to learn and take direction/mentoring.
  • Demonstrate the ability to perform successfully under pressure with multi?tasking capabilities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to relate well with all customers and peers.
  • Be self-motivated, a self-starter, that shows initiative and have a passion for what you do.

  • the individual's skill sets, experience and training;
  • licensure and certification requirements;
  • office location and other geographic considerations;

With that said, as required by local law, Vaco believes that the following salary range referenced above reasonably estimates the base compensation for an individual hired into this position in geographies that require salary range disclosure. The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
