Primary Purpose
Performs specific accounting, regulatory, reporting, and financial assignments under the guidance of more experienced/senior accountants. Complexity of assignments is commensurate with understanding of SAP, utility accounting/regulation, and policies/procedures applicable to functional area. More complex work is assigned as training progresses.
Duties & Responsibilities

  • The duties listed below involve problems of moderate scope and complexity. The Accountant - II receives ongoing guidance and training from the staff, senior and principal accountants as needed to fulfill their responsibilities.
  • Performs accounting, regulatory, reporting and financial assignments and analysis.
  • Maintains accounting and financial records and processes and/or supports processing of financial transactions.
  • Monitors and assures compliance with control policies and procedures, addresses control issues, and identifies and processes needed accounting adjustments. Performs SOX testing as needed.
  • Prepares internal and external financial and control reports.
  • Responds to inquiries of outside departments, auditors, customers, and employees.
  • Provides accounting guidance and/or training to the operating departments.
  • May act in a lead capacity and/or provide work direction to clerical staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).


$62900 - $94400 / year

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree Preferably in accounting, finance, economics or related business administration field with twenty semester units of accounting courses or equivalent experience. Required
  • Master's Degree MBA Preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Requires solid and broad accounting knowledge and the ability to apply the knowledge to accurately maintain accounting records and identify and effectively address accounting and control issues.
  • Verbal and written communications must be clear, concise and adaptable for both a technical and non-technical audience.
  • Strong computer skills with capability to learn SAP to maintain accounting and financial records and extract/compile data for preparation of reports and data analysis.
  • Ability to analyze a problem, identify issues, and develop alternative recommendations to address/resolve issues.
  • Skillful in organizing, planning, controlling, and coordinating in individual activities.
  • Must be able to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Positively influences others by action or example.
  • Effectively interact and partner with others in Accounting and Finance and in operations.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel is highly desirable.
  • Working knowledge of other Microsoft products such as Access, PowerPoint, etc. also desirable.
