SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

The Senior Accountant position will have the responsibility of reconciling general ledger account balances and preparing monthly journal entries that are Corporate Accounting's responsibility. The Senior Accountant plays a key role researching documents submitted by departments external to Corporate Accounting and determining the journal entry to record the transaction.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

* Analyzes and ensures the accuracy and adequacy of critical general ledger activities and account balances that Corporate Accounting is responsible for. Evaluates key determinants used to derive these amounts.

* Prepares and uploads monthly journal entries within a 5 day close.

* Researches and investigates account balances and prepares monthly balance sheet account reconciliations.

* Assists in the review of account activity and analysis of variances on the monthly closing schedule.

* Assists with annual audit by preparing/providing audit documentation or support requests, assisting with financial analysis and answering questions.

* Monitors internal controls over financial transactions.

* Ad hoc responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Corporate Accounting.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

* Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Finance or business related field, or equivalent work experience in accounting or related field and training.

* Demonstrated skills using General Ledger Accounting Systems, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word.

* 3 to 5 years of experience in General Accounting, extensive knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, and extensive account reconciliation experience.

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

* CPA or CPA eligible

* Strong analytical skills in addition to the ability to prioritize, stay organized and handle multiple tasks.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

* Experience with SAP or other ERP system.

* Public Accounting experience.

* CPA or CPA eligible.

Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

The salary/hourly range is $78,600-$101,844. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. Depending on an employee's assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee's base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation.
