Job Summary:

The Medical Education Office at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health (UWSMPH) is seeking a director that will lead a Community for Innovation, Scholarship and Research (CISR) in undergraduate medical education. This new position will lead a broad range of medical education scholarship efforts focused on our medical student education program teaching and learning, innovations and longitudinal outcomes. CISR will encompass the full spectrum of medical education scholarship from small curricular quality improvement projects that improve specific practices, innovation projects that explore new ideas or approaches, to large systematic research investigations that serve to create new knowledge and extend the field of medical education.

This is an exciting opportunity to help amplify and promote scholarly activities in medical education a UWSMPH. The director will be responsible for developing and actively maintaining a dynamic environment in which CISR will be a hub for faculty, staff and students participating in undergraduate medical education scholarship. The director will also help explore ways to develop and build upon existing infrastructure to grow and sustain medical education scholarship at UWSMPH.

Responsibilities:
- Collaboratively lead a Community for Innovation, Scholarship and Research (CISR) for faculty/staff at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health (UWSMPH) to increase collaboration, guidance and networking
- Provide visionary leadership to promote and grow medical education scholarship at UWSMPH
- Build a positive culture and environment for medical education scholarship at UWSMPH
- Collaborate with faculty and staff on a variety of curricular innovation projects, research and scholarship including assistance with methods, design and data analysis
- Build partnerships with external resources to help provide and supplement opportunities, resources, and services for medical education scholarship
- Lead efforts to seek internal and external funding for research and scholarly projects
- Oversee the development and operation of a data warehouse of scholarly projects and outcomes at UWSMPH
- Provide consultation to help guide medical education research projects and increase scholarly dissemination
- Participate in administrative and committee work to support the scholarly mission of UWSMPH


Responsibilities:
Assists with the oversight and strategic planning for a center or program and may assist with directing a variety of research activities. Allocates resources, secures funding, and supervises staff to ensure program strategies and activities align with the institutional mission.

  • 5% Determines unit personnel needs and the unit personnel resource allocation plan
  • 20% Serves as a unit liaison to internal stakeholder groups to foster cross-unit partnership efforts regarding research programs and activities
  • 30% Serves as a consultant to project directors and provides technical expertise to research and operational personnel
  • 20% Collaborates with project directors and the full range of clients whose knowledge and expertise varies
  • 10% Manages large research projects for a center or program
  • 5% Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
  • 10% Assists with planning, implementation, and management of strategic initiatives for a center or program

Qualifications:

Required
- Demonstrated record of research productivity and scholarly achievement in a field related to education
- A successful track record of collaborating with students, staff, and faculty from a variety of backgrounds and lived experiences
- Record of mentoring students, faculty and/or staff on a broad range of education research related methods
- Evidence of leadership experience (e.g., supervising teams, grant budgets, projects, and/or previous leadership position)
- Excellent verbal and written skills and experience communicating research in ways that reach partners and stakeholders

Preferred
- Medical education scholar with national stature
- Qualitative or mixed-methods expertise in medical education research
- Previous supervisory experience


Work Type:

Full or Part Time: 75% - 100%

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.


Appointment Type, Duration:

Terminal, 15 month appointment.
This position has the possibility to be extended or converted to an ongoing appointment based on need and/or funding


Salary:

Minimum $116,426 ANNUAL (12 months)
Depending on Qualifications
The starting salary for the position is $116,426 but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Additional Information:

University sponsorship is not available for this position, including transfers of sponsorship. The selected applicant will be responsible for ensuring their continuous eligibility to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the United States, a lawful permanent resident, a foreign national authorized to work in the United States without the need of an employer sponsorship) on or before the effective date of appointment.

This position is being funded by a three year Wisconsin Partnership Program Grant. We hope that the grant will be renewed, but the position continuation is dependent upon this funding.
