  • Develops and manages activities for hospital language services for patients, families, and visitors of Northside Hospital.
  • Responsible for the selection, training, and assignment of interpreters and translators.
  • Educates staff regarding compliance with the laws protecting individuals needing interpretation; as well as the ethics of the interpreter-patient- provider triad.
  • Responsible for the selection of interpreters and translators; establishes criteria for selection.
  • Works with NSH management staff to identify interpretation and translation needs and discusses access to services, use of interpreters, and translation of documents.
  • Develops and evaluates hospital policies and procedures as necessary for the effective and appropriate use of interpreters and translators
  • Educates staff regarding laws, patients' rights, and TJC standards regarding limited English proficient (LEP) patients and deaf and hard-of-hearing patients.
  • Utilizes interpretation and translation data findings to determine staffing needs, language resource needs, and changes in procedures to best serve the language and communication needs of limited English proficient (LEP) and deaf/hard-of-hearing patients and families.
  • On boards and educates new facilities and affiliates on identifying language and communication needs; maintaining compliance with laws, Joint Commission requirements, and hospital policies; and accessing and utilizing interpretation and translation services and resources.
  • Stays abreast of language services industry developments, changes, and improvements and makes changes to operations as appropriate.
    Prepares and maintains fiscal responsibility for the department.
  • Creates and implements cultural competency initiatives to maintain compliance with TJC requirements and those of other governing bodies
  • Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injury accident to Manager.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED
  1. Bachelors degree in social services, business or directly related field.
  2. Two years' experience in a leadership capacity.
  3. Demonstrated operation efficiency skills
  4. Skill and experience in education/training.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION PREFERRED
  1. Previous experience in Interpretation Services.
  2. Major in Ethnic or International Studies
  3. Fluency in English and one foreign language.
  4. BTG Certificate or equivalent
